After-swimming coat

Those great big coats that I see women wearing on telly when there's a news item about them breaking the ice on a local lake for a swim in midwinter... what are they called and where do I get one, please?

I've taken up swimming again after some years. One of my local pools has a single mixed sex changing room with open showers, so you can't strip off, and the other is segregated but tiny and you're fighting for space with swimmers, exercise class women, queues for the showers etc.

I think it would be so much easier just to throw on a big coat over my cozzy and drive home to my nice, private, warm shower. The coat needs to keep me warm in a northern winter on the walk to the car and keep the car seat dry. Ideally not cost a fortune.

Dry robe

AliceMcK · 13/01/2024 02:18

You mean like a changing robe? My DDs have them, fleece lined and waterproof on the outside for outdoor activities. They are a godsend for northern weather.

ConflictedCheetah · 13/01/2024 02:21

Dry Robe is the commonly referred to brand but other brands do them. Mine is Finisterre although similar price.

Paw2024 · 13/01/2024 02:35

Regatta do a good price one

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/01/2024 02:36

Dry Robe. There are other brands as well.

I've got one - worth every penny. I swim in the sea and my Dry Robe is a Godsend. Some of my fellow swimmers have cheaper versions which aren't as warm but would probably be fine if you're swimming in an indoor pool

Just to add, as I am a wild swimmer, and I LOVE my dry robes (not necessarily that brand) that if you look on John Lewis there are some amazing sale bargains on Cape Cove.

Gorilla robes are a good value option

MissSookieStackhouse · 13/01/2024 09:10

They're called dry robes… I’ve got one by Seashell (£160) and my daughter has one by HyperWake (£95).

Thanks for all the recommendations; it is much appreciated. Now I just need to buy one!

Have a look on vinted as well - lots on there if you put in dry robe and they seem to be in good condition. Personally I don't like getting my dry robe wet- I have a towelling poncho I put on first and the robe keeps me warm.

I like the swim feral toweling robes. Not like dry robe. Easy to get changed under.
But you should get changed after swimming anyway - it’s better to get your temperature up.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/01/2024 13:09

Google "changing robe" there's loads. DryRobe is the original, or at least best known brand, and the genetic term.

If you just want to get changed after swimming indoors, Decathlon (and DryRobe, Rapanui, Red...) do big, long, hoody towels. like this. Unless you live very close to the pool, it won't be very nice going home damp. I do sometimes go home naked under my DryRobe though.
