Would you store clothes in the loft?

For the first time, I've stored all my summer clothes in our loft eaves

Its dry but can get very cold, and I'm suddenly worried everything will go mouldy

We have ski gear up there which has always been fine. At worst it might just smell a bit musty

So you tbink it wil be ok?

Yep - summer clothes in the loft in the winter (in a suitcase) and vice versa. And all ski gear up there for 50 weeks of the year (in a different suitcase).

Everything goes into the suitcase clean, and is ironed as needed when it comes down for the new season.

Impossible to know really. Depends how the loft is, what the clothes are being stored in, if there's any little critters up there etc

I had a few bags of clothes in ours in bin liners for a few years. They smelled a bit musty and oddly a little damp (through sealed bin liners?) But I put them through two washing cycles and they were fine.

I use vacuum sealed bags.

Yes, we store summer clothes in bin bags in loft.

It’s always a nice surprise to get them out and to rediscover clothes you’ve forgotten. Not so nice when they don’t fit!

Nannyfannybanny · 12/01/2024 14:38

Vacuum sealed bags here, and a big cardboard box lined with sheets of polystyrene, left from parcels, never had anything go mouldy or damp.

GR8GAL · 12/01/2024 14:38

Once it's watertight you shouldn't have any issues. I keep blankets, winter gear/summer gear in the loft in VacPac bags which are great as they save a ton of space.

Ours are in those “really useful” boxes that click shit like Tupperware.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/01/2024 14:46

We’ve kept our off season clothes in big sealed plastic boxes ( they don’t click shit though, just shut🤭) for decades. I usually put a lavender bag and some mothballs in a bag to keep them off the clothes, just in case.

Never had any problems.

TheFormidableMrsC · 12/01/2024 14:52

I've done it for years. In plastic zip up storage bags or the ones you use the hoover to suck air out of. Suitcases too. It'll be fine. Will need a wash when reopened though.

TheGander · 12/01/2024 17:36

Yes if they’re not wool ( the moths would get them) and if they are machine washable as they will smell musty. Cotton and synthetics, fine.
