Does anyone have any suggestions for what a 5' tall size 16 woman could wear to a fancy evening awards thing? I am really struggling! Budget of up to £500 ish. Don't really do heels but could manage a bit of a heel I guess. Would prefer something a bit interesting/ edgy as am hoping the outfit can look good/ fashionable even if the wearer is a weeble.

You have a month from now to prep, exercise which could help re looking your best in the dress.

MotherofGorgons · 18/01/2024 09:54

How exciting! No suggestions, but I will watch for a green sparkly dress sailing by.

Nestofwalnuts · 18/01/2024 12:15

Very low back. Can you manage without a bra? Or add a panel of black satin or lace to screen the bra strap?

MouseMinge · 18/01/2024 20:31

I think ordering the green one was a good move. It's the sort of dress that looks like nothing much off but I can imagine that it's really flattering on most shapes and sizes. I'm glad you're going with the Rixo one as well because I love that. And the BAFTAS, oh wow!

egowise · 18/01/2024 21:05

Sirroco's suggestion is the only dress I like on this whole thread 😂

Showmethemoneyyy · 18/01/2024 22:02

Ohhh just came back and saw that you’ve ordered the Rixo, yay! Hope it works out for you, I’ll expect my medal in the post if so 🤭

How about a fabulous print like this? Other great prints on this site too.

Edited to say: matching obi belt available, and they also do other dress shapes in this fabric. Generally I think their dresses would look better on someone larger than their models, and would come up full length or nearly on someone shorter.

MaryEllenWaldron · 26/01/2024 20:18

Wow. That's gorgeous.

Ooh good luck. How fabulous. It makes sense now, something a bit edgy.

As a fellow potato I hooted with laughter at the galleon analogy. It perfectly defines how I feel in a floor length dress, so thanks for that hilarious image. 🤣

Some really great and stylish suggestions here. Not sure about all of them for short and round, but keeping an open mind.

Do tell us how it goes! 😍

I’m the least fashionista but was going to recommend the Esska Charlie shoes. I’ve been tempted by these myself but I’m not sure if my wide wide feet will get into them.

Enjoy the event.

How about an outfit from here: https://www.gudrunsjoden.com/en-gb/sale/clothes/cardigans/product-135086-dark-peony-s

You can layer pieces to create a really beautiful/ bohemian type look, you’d be ultra comfy and best of all you’d get lots of use out the individual pieces after the event.

something like this:

Adrianna Papell does a good dress, well made.

Example here from John Lewis

Silk Fred has some glitzy dresses that are not too expensive- I've bought a couple of sequinned dresses from them for black tie events.
