Tretinoin confused how to use

So i ordered tretinoin gel. I been researching how to use it and i get loads of contradictory advice on Google and from beautician

Some say to wait 20 mins before applying it to dry face at night , some say apply it over moisturiser, others say apply it first then moisturiser

If i start few times a night , what do i apply on alternate days ? Would hyaluronic serum and moisturiser do ?

Can i apply as i normally do Vitamin C serum followed by sunscreen in the morning be okay ?

Then when i went for facial , beautician told me just to apply Rosehip oil at night and nothing else if i use tretinoin ...
( she also told me not to order online and get pure tretinoin from her clinic but i still ordered, is there variations of tretinoin? she mentioned i need pure one ?)

I want to use it for firming skin and prevention of wrinkles etc as i heard it's much stronger then Retinol i normally use )

Please advice would be so helpful as my tretinoin arriving today ! What my routine should be?

I think your beautician is taking the mick! Dermatica is £24.99 for approx 1 month’s supply. They will start you on a low dose of Tret to build up tolerance gradually so your skin can get used to it as it’s strong stuff. If you go in for a high dose right off the bat, you’re likely to have irritation, peeling and all sorts of problems! They also recommend you layer up till you get used to it - use a moisturiser first, then add the Tret, then more moisturiser on top. Also, start by applying no more than every other day. What qualifications does your beautician have to prescribe? If she’s recommending a strong dose from the start that’s very questionable. Let me know if you need a discount referral code for Dermatica!

Thank you ! i'd love discount referral code, and definitely am going with Dermatica and not listening to BS

Thank you everyone who replied and educated me Xx

I’ve just sent you a PM @MangoGirll 😀

I haven’t been using it that long, but I’ve already noticed a difference on my face, but wow…the back of my hands! My hands looked older than I did, but I’ve noticed a real improvement since I started using Dermatica.

and £120 is a normal
price for this ?

seems a bit much ...

No way!! Average price in Spain and Canaries is £18 - £20. I have just bought three tubes two weeks ago so know what I am talking about. I used to use Obagi at £109 per tube - Retirides is exactly the same.

I paid approx 2.50 for a tube today in middle east lol

My mum sends me tretinoid from Portugal (€8 I believe).

I refuse to buy Dermatica since they sent out an email stating that (following costumers' feedback) they'd be reducing the size of the packages (because they might go out of date) and increasing the prices.

I won't subsidise a company who treat their costumers as if we're all imbeciles.

Don't waste your money on Dermatica. You can get tretinoin online from countries that don't require a prescription. Or else just get a prescription online. The tone and texture of my skin improved dramatically and much of the sun damage faded. I love how smooth my skin feels after less than 2 year's use. I chucked out my foundation and concealer. I'm in Australia and I get mine from Indian pharmacies online. Start with 0.025% if you can get it. They've phased that out where I live. Start with 3 nights per week i.e. Mon/Wed/Fri, just a pea sized amount. I prefer the cream to the gel, you can see where it's going. Slather on plenty of moisturiser on top, I use basic Cetaphil cream. Gradually work your way up to nightly use. That's it. You only need wait 30 seconds for your skin to dry. For anything.

Hi @MangoGirll My daughters (late teen and 20s) and I (60s) all have tretinoin in our custom formulas from Monderma (registered online pharmacy in the UK) and are really pleased with our results for different skin concerns. You can expect excellent results if you follow guidelines for your particular usage. Tretinoin is definitely one of the best kept dermatology ‘secrets’ until fairly recently and no wonder; it works so well for many skin issues from
acne to anti ageing. Good luck.

RaspberryBeretxx · 22/01/2025 19:40

I use skin&me and really like it. However if you have a low dose tretinoin it’ll do similar so I’d try using up what you have first. What strength do you have? Depending on bat I’d use 2-3 times a week initially on washed and dry skin. I use a very basic cerave moisturiser on top and sometimes caster oil over that (I wait as long as I can before moisturiser although sometimes that’s only 5 mins!). I’d avoid vit c or other actives for the first couple of months then try it out.

I use Retirides that I buy when on holiday in Spain,
I use it 3/4 times a week, I don't use a moisturiser before or after, only if I get some peeling, been using it for around 3 years now, started with the ordinary for around a year, then brought the cream of tret.

It's now prescription only in Spain now, and it's enforced.
