Awkward work wear for a fatty fudge

I am 5'8" and a size 20. Massive tummy, bit of a waist, huge hips and boobs.

I have a new job 🎉

Very exciting. It is something I have done before but that was before I gained so much weight 😩

It is a fairly physical job but in a formal work environment which is what makes it so awkward.

Any ideas what a larger person could wear to do this sort of job? It needs to look reasonable but I need to be comfortable. Can't wear dresses or skirts really as I'll be bending down / squatting to pick things up, so needs to be comfy trousers which stretch but aren't totally inappropriate for work 🤔

Dunnes stores in Ireland (they have a UK Dispatch Centre afaik). They often do elastic stretchy black trousers that look suitable for work in their Savida brand.

I don’t think you should talk about yourself like that OP.. at 5foot 8 and a size 20 you hardly need to be craned out of the window

Marks and Spencer is your oyster as PP says, White stuff, fat face, seasalt, john Lewis, Boden, live unlimited, Lucy and yak will all have options. Mango amd monsoon might too but tend to be less stretchy. If you are on a tight budget then next, river island, simply be, H&M, asos, yours - but these won’t last as long or breath as well.

Congrats on the new gig

Another vote for the M&S trousers linked by a previous poster. I have 3 pairs and they are ridiculously comfortable bit look smart. I dress them up with plain tops and a blazer or a smart blouse.

I wear co-ordinating soft thin leggings under a skirt or a cotton jersey dress. Comfortable, practical and can be smart especially with contrasting scarf. Especially good if the work environment is outdoors or chilly.

Another vote for the Marks trousers! So comfy and easy to wear but look quite chic.

I clicked on this because I saw fudge 😂 but you shouldn't speak about yourself like that. I hope you smash your new job!

Thanks all for the nice comments Flowers - I'm honestly not self flagelating here and was really just joking with the fatty fudge! I don't think I look that bad in all honesty and I'm sure I'll get a bit fitter doing a more active job than current desk one. Also can't snack while moving, so that'll help too!

@goodnessmeits2024, I'd considered doing that with dresses and leggings but I think either the dress would be short enough for people to get a bit of an eyeful if I bend over or would be long enough to prevent me squatting down to pick things up 🤔. I will try a few outfits out though and see how I can move about.

Same size as you, M&S for sure. Supermarkets too, evans, simply be, H&M, boohoo

heelander · 16/01/2024 20:18

I wear jeans (with a bit of stretch like US brand universal standard or M&S Harper) with a sea salt tunic or M&S sleeveless linen tunic with a long-sleeved top under. Dress up with scarf or jewellery.
Other options are longline shirt with a jumper/sweatshirt over jeans/chinos/leggings.
More formal/smart is wide leg trousers (I go crop but only because I haven't found a good length for me full length) with a fine knit jumper or stripy long sleeve t
