Refills for powder compact

Can anyone help me find a square-shaped powder compact refill that will fit a vintage compact? There are loads available to buy but what I need is one that comes in a magnetic square-shaped pan. None of the ones I've found online state whether they're in a metal pan or if they're designed to work as magnetic.

Trish McEvoy refills are magnetic (same with her eyeshadow, blusher, bronzer etc)

Thanks @HundredMilesAnHour I hadn't seen this brand before.

What I'm finding difficult is being able to find any dimensions/size information for any powder refills available online. The powder aperture of the vintage compact that I'd like to get for my friend is only 4cm wide which seems really small.

Wondering if anyone can help with any sizing info of any pressed powder refills they might have?

It might be that I'll need to buy a different compact - maybe one with a circular aperture for refills.

That sounds quite small @Tabitha005 Depending on where you live, your best bet is probably physically going into somewhere like Selfridges or Liberty and doing the rounds of the beauty counters so you can check before you buy.

@HundredMilesAnHour - yes, I think I'll probably have to do that.

If you find one can you let me know? I have a beautiful art deco compact that I can't use as I can't find the right shaped/sized refil!

Getting on this thread as I have a similar problem!

Chanel?

justalittlesnoel · 12/01/2024 17:08

Are you able to find a lose powder you like and press it in yourself?

Tabitha005 · 14/01/2024 16:25

@justalittlesnoel - that's what I'm hoping. I purchased a Max Factor 'Creme Puff' translucent pressed powder for about £6 that, according to a very knowledgeable-sounding blog I read, can be popped out of its packaging and thus used in a refillable compact. Alas, when it arrived, it didn't seem to be removable from its plastic packaging so no joy there.

The search continues, but the square-shaped Trish McEvoy refills that @HundredMilesAnHour suggested are probably a better bet as they're made specifically for refillable compacts. They're much more expensive at £28 each so I'd need to be sure and I'm up in London at the end of the month so a trip to Selfridges may prove fruitful.

@newnameagain1976 - although Chanel does sell translucent pressed powder refills, it looks like they come in a tray that can only be used with Chanel compacts, sadly.

@MedievalNun and @TressiliansStone - I will let you know if I find a solution and, likewise, let me know if you find anything too.

@Tabitha005 Liberty also sell Trish McEvoy if that's any easier. It's a high quality brand (on a par with Bobbi Brown) that's been well respected in the US for decades (I was first in introduced by a US colleague back in the 90s when I was working in NYC) but has minimal presence in the UK. Definitely good quality and she's been doing magnetic refills for the 30 years I've been using her make-up so maybe a bit ahead of her time!
