If you do your own gel nails at home...

Do you use the paint on remover,if so what make?

Is gently filing it off a massive no no?

Are those clips to hold cotton wool on any good as I can't get on with fiddly foils?

What nail oil oil do you use,I'm using Dadi atm but fancy a change?

Thanks 😊

The clips are very handy, much easier than foils, but I do prefer the paint on remover.

I use Mygel magic nail remover. It works great, although does take longer than it says on the bottle.

I wouldn't file the gel off completely as you'll be constantly removing the top layer of your nail. You do need to buff the top layer of the varnish off before removing of course.

Thanks that's really helpful 😊

I use a nail drill to gently file my gels off, I could never get on with those clips or foils. I have used the paint on remover that bubbles it off, but it felt awful on my nails so I didn't use it again. I use pure coconut or argan oil on my cuticles, but that's because i'm cheap😂.

I apply an extra thick bottom coat and can usually peel my gels off from the cuticle end after about 10 days. Because I seal the tip, that end doesn't peel off so easily but will then scratch or file off.

Thanks for the tips 😊

DD and I use the Mylee Gel Remover with Boots nail clips. I still wrap the cotton pad in foil but she doesn't- both work well and the gel easily comes off with an orange stick.

We don't file, just buff off the shine.

Have you read all the articles from dermatologists explaining the negative impact of gel nails, especially the home kits? There are some absolute horror stories.

To remove, I gently file off the shine, and then foil wrap cotton wool with acetone. 10 mins and they come off.

There are horror stories about all make up if not used correctly to be fair.

My mum used to do my gels all the time with no issues at all, just haven't done it myself . I'm getting on well and got 10 days out of my first manicure 😊

I use the paint on stuff. Just any generic blue bottle one off Amazon but it’s the same as the my gel stuff. It’s the best for keeping my nails in decent condition I find - they got really weak when I soaked them and filing or peeling is very damaging.

The main thing is to avoid getting any product on your skin, and definitely not curing it on skin.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/01/2024 18:01

I'll order some.

It's just arrived and had a quick go and it's fantastic, got rid of all the bits left on that the liquid didn't remove properly.
