How long for this hair?

The first photo shows my current hair (natural), and the second photo shows the strawberry blonde I would like to become.

The hairdresser I wants to use charges by time. What will I be needing? New to hair dyeing so no real idea about foils, t-sections etc.

I will also be getting my hair cut short (charged separately) so there will be less to colour!

For info, this is a description of the 45 minute slot:

Usually for a Root or Full head colour or T-Section Foils. Your Stylist will have up to 45 minutes to achieve the colour you desire using any colour techniques needed.

The strawberry blonde is just going to look like a bad home hair dye job

It is not a good blonde colour to have unless it's natural

Sunriseatsix · 05/01/2024 21:35

I'm a bit scared to go properly red, having been blonde all my life. Can you suggest a good colour that might work? I'm so naive to all this!

I did this the other way round. I'm naturally a dirty dark blonde colour. I went bright red all over first. Then decided I preferred the colour it faded to which was a lighter copper. Then I couldn't decide if I want to be as blonde as I was in my twenties so I decided to go blonde gradually. I'm the colour you want now basically after 2 T sections over grown out copper.

attleleaf · 05/01/2024 22:10

That colour looks more like apricot? It's a darker strawberry blonde possibly.

My hair is naturally a light strawberry blonde (I've dyed it blonde before). I use a gold shampoo, which I leave on for a while, before washing out, to enhance it. Your hair is a lovely colour, so perhaps you could try some sort of gold shampoo first.

Sunriseatsix · 06/01/2024 01:35

What colour might look more natural? Could any of these work?

I'm grateful for people's experiences

The hair in the picture looks possibly like it's been bleached all over first then had a colour put on top. Looks a difficult colour to achieve. You'd need to discuss properly with your hairdresser.

Whsthappensnow · 06/01/2024 11:06

@Sunriseatsix I think you probably need a consultation to maybe decide the best way to achieve it. I was very reluctant to have all over bleach and then colour over the top. I like all the pictures you have but they look expensive and complex with several colours going on!

@attleleaf I'd now like to maintain my colour properly because I really like it now and I'm feeling like a golden shampoo would be good for me. Can I ask what you use?

Sunriseatsix · 06/01/2024 12:06

@Whsthappensnow : expensive and complex are not words that appeal to me! I don't really like going to the hairdressers and I don't have much money!
It was supposed to be a treat and a pick-me-up after 9 months in hospital in the last 12, but maybe I need to scale down my plans!

Everyone's hair sounds gorgeous!

Something like that can't be done in 45 mins, I would say three hours

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/01/2024 12:12

Has the hairdresser said the colour will take 45 minutes? What happens if they need to do more work to achieve the colour, do you end up paying more? I've never known hairdressers charge by time unless someone with long, very thick hair was having a perm, but maybe I'm out of date.

YouknoweverythingJonSnow · 06/01/2024 12:14

This is my hair colour - I have it bleached and then a toner. First time it was a full head bleach and I was there four and a half hours. Now I have roots bleached only and it's about two and a half hours. Hope that helps OP 😊

Your own colour is really nice OP. Why don't you just have the restyle, and then decide on the colour after? I'd keep it natural myself, it is a pretty blonde. 👱

spanishviola · 06/01/2024 12:34

I like your natural colour OP. Also suggest a restyle instead.

Whsthappensnow · 06/01/2024 12:35

@Sunriseatsix I did fancy a complete change at first and started with a copper. My local hairdresser was on a reality TV show. I really liked her hair on it and she convinced me to do it. In my opinion all over colour is quicker and easier at first. So, she used a 7.43 on me. You can Google that to see what it looks like and then let golden highlights over it another time.

Sunriseatsix · 06/01/2024 12:59

Lots of nice comments and helpful advice, thanks.

My hair does look more interesting in that pic than I imagined. I just think of it as dirty blonde as it used to be so much lighter.

A restyle is the first step. Going much shorter as I've lost a lot of hair due to sepsis. It's also gone curly which is new to me. Maybe I can then try out these golden shampoos people were suggesting - following with interest.

Nobody has said how long it would take. I haven't even popped round to the hairdresser as I'm still quite poorly so would prefer to do just one trip. I just posted the 45-minute slot to give an idea of what was covered in that sort of thing.

Beautiful! Not sure I have the patience for 4.5 hours though! Wow!!

Sorry you have been so unwell. A restyle will breathe new life into your hair so you could save yourself a lot of money...and time!

You could also take a look at the curly girl method to take advantage of your new curls 😊

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/01/2024 13:36

I used to get highlights which had strawberry blonde and lighter autumn leaf colours (a long time ago and by a home hairdresser, she used to be a session hairstylist though).

It took me the usual highlights time. So a few hours. My natural hair colour is dark/ash blonde.

attleleaf · 06/01/2024 15:49

@Whsthappensnow Of course. I use Infuse my colour. I use around once a fortnight. It can be slightly drying so a good conditioning afterwards.

@attleleaf That's really helpful thanks and good advice as yes I've experienced colour shampoos doing that in the past. That John Frieda stuff is awful.
