I need a miracle for dry hair

My hair is a dry frizzy mess. It's actually curly but I've given up on my curls for now. I've done curly girl, had a curly cut, tried everything over the years.
I'm straightening it at the moment but the ends especially are so so dry. What would help? It doesn't need cutting.

I have thick hair but it’s not curly. I like the Moroccan oil products for moisturising, especially the hair oil. Other argali oils also work well.

CopperLion · 03/01/2024 21:37

Argon oils

MidnightEagle · 03/01/2024 21:44

I've been getting professional smoothing treatments. Definitely reduces frizz but needs to be redone every few months.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/01/2024 21:45

A keratin treatment. I had a salon one, then did my own which was actually better.

OneFrenchEgg · 03/01/2024 21:46

Only Curls has changed my relationship with my hair. I follow the process (four products - clean, condition, cream, gel) and scrunch upwards etc. it is amazing and I'm not usually evangelical about hair products having tried so many. I was reluctant to try yet another curly method but this is genuinely brilliant, especially a couple of months in to using it.

I'm going to get one of those shower heads with a water filter. After having great hair on holiday I've come to then conclusion hard water is the biggest issue.

ShitIforgothelves · 03/01/2024 21:57

Tried only curls!

Which argan oil is good please and do I use it on wet or dry hair?

Colour wow keratin treatment is great - silk pillowcase and silk scrunchies

theduchessofspork · 03/01/2024 22:02

I have fine frizzy dry thin coloured total nightmare hair

Philip Kingsley elastisicer is v good used once a week

But actually the thing that has really made a difference is hair botox once every six weeks. It's not cheap but it might be worth considering if you have some cash.

I think you are right, my hair is much much better in some areas.

Are they expensive do you know?

JadziaD · 03/01/2024 22:08

Innolux elixir is a really good leave in conditioner for these sort of moments.

Overall, agree with argan/morroccan hair oil products. Superdrug has a great selection of different brands.

GlitteryDirt · 03/01/2024 22:11

Only curls doesn't work on my hair either.
Have you tried curl power from Lush? It totally changed the texture of my hair. And it's better to do the twizle around your finger method rather than scrunching.
My hair has gone from fuzzy to defined curls which last upto a week!! Without having to wash it.

Anon1231990 · 03/01/2024 22:16

This may not work for you, but thought I would mention it, I bought L'Oréal bond repair set from boots (pre-shampoo? , shampoo, conditioner, leave in serum) and wasn't expecting a lot tbh, I have used it twice now and my hair condition looks a million times better!

ShitIforgothelves · 03/01/2024 22:19

Thank you!
I tried the lush stuff, it was brilliant but I couldn't cope with the strong smell!

It depends on how dry. I like Green People quinoa & artichoke conditioner but it's extremely thick and moisturising and suits me now my hair gets less greasy as I'm older. It transforms my hair from wild frizz to smooth and silky. When I was younger it would have been way too moisturising. They do samples, though, or used to. Plus pure argan oil from the Ordinary.

Bornonsunday · 03/01/2024 22:26

Kerastase bain satin works well on my dry frizzy hair. My hair is also loads nicer since I stopped colouring it - could that be drying it out?

sakes · 03/01/2024 22:47

Argali oils and glycerin hair products

sakes · 03/01/2024 22:47

Argan

Becute · 03/01/2024 22:50

Hairsyrup is a good product. I have the opposite to your hair mine gets greasy so I use there hairsyrup for greasy hair. They have options for different types of hair. They have really good reviews aswell 😊

Butterflysunshine01 · 03/01/2024 22:57

On towel dried hair, use L'Oréal professional vitamino colour 10 in 1 spray, its a light pink bottke and smells amazing. Kerestase ultime elixir hair oil, used on towel dried or dry hair, mid lengths and ends. These two make my dyed, naturally curly dry hair feel super soft without being heavy .

TippiHedrin · 03/01/2024 23:29

Heat protector. Nutrition/hydration. An elasticising shampoo/conditioner. Olaplex 3 once in a while. Careful with protein treatments.

I know you say it doesn't need cutting but unless you cut it last week, it probably needs cutting.

Remagirl · 03/01/2024 23:49

WOW Dream Coat Supernatural Sealant Spray it's fab and you don't have to use it every time (I do though)

2024GarlicCloves · 04/01/2024 02:25

Cheapskate here. I'm using lanolin.

Other cheapskate offering: DIY Olaplex.
Recipe:
Citric acid, dissolve in water. Use a quarter of a teaspoon citric acid powder to about half a litre of warm water.
Add powdered collagen, I use about a tablespoon.
Add about 250ml olive oil.
Shake like a lunatic (the mixture, not yourself).
Add more oil if you think you should.
Plaster it all over dry hair, cover with cling film or a carrier bag. Leave it for as long as you possibly can. Wash hair as usual.

The old-fashioned version of this is lemon juice, olive oil and an egg. Yup, it's mayonnaise!

You can get a pretty impressive smooth, soft & shiny effect by applying oil (any oil) and glycerine as a dressing. It's hard to get the right amount, though, and it goes lank & sticky if you use too much of either.

2024GarlicCloves · 04/01/2024 04:59

If anybody's thinking of making the budget Olaplex, throw away half the citric acid liquid before adding the other ingredients. You can also thicken it up with gelatine, xanthan gum, etc, if you want (gelatine adds more 'protein' than other thickeners).

Sorry, I just wandered back to this, past the edit window.
