Wedding in South Africa- South African/ Indian fusion

I don’t know what to wear! The wedding is in Feb so will be hot. Bride is South African, groom is Indian South African. Christian ceremony in a palace like venue with drinks/canapé reception in the gardens, then back inside for dinner and party. All I know is it’s going to be colourful, people will be fabulously dressed and amazing! I’m 5”1, size 6, no boobs or bum but bit of a wobbly stomach.

Ask the person who invited what is suitable. If they say it is, I would wear a wonderful wedding appropriate saree.

Dress code is smart and everyone will be wearing a mix! There’ll be guests (and by that I mean female guests, most men will be in suits) in traditional S African Zulu dresses, Indian sarees, lehengas, and western dress.

I could do a saree but I won’t have anyone to help me wrap it. I have a couple
formal dresses but I was really ill and lost a lot if weight so they don’t fit.

How about something like this? It fits the sparkly glitzy vibe of an Indian wedding without feeling like you are over-dressed.
I am Indian and would hesitate to wear Indian clothes to a Christian (or civil) ceremony for a mixed couple -- every one I have attended has been predominantly Western wear.

If you would like to wear a saree, you can find lots of lovely pre-draped ones that are easy to wear (a lot of these have long lead times to order):

Is it at Sun City by any chance?

If you yourself are not from the Indian culture I am not sure if wearing a sari would be ideal. But just from a practical point of view, if you are not used to the layers, and if you will be at SC, it will be pretty hot in Feb.

You are going to be surrounded by the most incredible colours of attire, so I would go with something as colourful as you are comfortable with.

I know their are endless posts on here about the crime of wearing white, but it's far more looked down on if you wear black to a wedding here.

When they say formal, then it's not ball gown / tuxedo (although some men may wear this), but longer length dress for sure. You don't need a hat/fascinator which is largely a British thing.

I am South African. I would not wear a sari. I would wear colour - no black or white. No hat. You are slim so can really wear anything but I would avoid anything too tight. Light and flowy is good. You could go structured if you like but will be hot.
