Invest in treatments at 44 or save for facelift?

Just that. I’ve been doing some research into treatments as for the first time in my life starting to feel I could well do with some help. I have not looked after my skin very well and whilst I think I probably have good genes I’ve been a sun worshipper and it’s crept up on me. Mostly the lower face is ageing me I feel (jowls, nasolabial folds, neck starting to sag) but also getting some significant crows feet.

Would I be better off putting money aside each month for a facelift and potentially neck lift at 50 (or at least a chance to do it then, or wait a bit longer if I wanted) rather than spending it on fillers/botox/profilo etc? I’m not that bothered with how I look right now but feel like in 5 years I could be and the facelift might be the most cost effective option. Or, is having regular less invasive treatments starting earlier on a better bet?

My own feeling (knowing nothing about either) is that a face lift would be money better spent.

desiderata328 · 03/01/2024 20:25

I am 45 and had a facelift 6 months ago; best decision I ever made. Fillers and Botox are ok for tweaks but nothing will lift the face other than surgery. Please do not touch anything that uses radio frequency, it will only age you more in the long run.

We've come a long way in facelifts these days. Deep plane work looks so natural as it's the underlying muscles that are moved so there is no pulling on the skin.

ChicagoNorth · 03/01/2024 20:40

@desiderata328 Does IPL.for rosacea and skin damage use radio frequency?

Lazydomestic · 03/01/2024 20:42

Get recommendations for a local aesthetics clinic…. If your skin isn’t in great condition that needs to be improved first to tackle the sun damage ( preparation skin care, chemical peel, lasek etc ). Face lift won’t improve how your skin condition. Don’t waste money on fad facials like vampire face lifts (temporary results), thread lifts (rare good results). Get the prep done, invest in a good sun screen but most importantly get good qualified advice !!

LondonQueen · 03/01/2024 20:44

Start a good skincare serum and a retinol, whilst saving for a facelift. Don't touch botox or fillers, they'll never look as good as a facelift.

Dougt · 03/01/2024 20:49

Sounds like great advice so far, thank you all.

save up for the Ivy League treatment. A Facelift. Also too many fillers can leave scarring in face tissue as surgeons often say . That won’t help your facelift. Nothing wrong with a few tweaks of filler and Botox after your facelift .

SparrowFeet · 03/01/2024 21:00

@desiderata328 what is it about radio frequency that ages you in the long run? I've googled but can't seem to find an answer.
OP hope you don't mind me asking!

I want to know this too !!

I'm considering co2 fractional laser, (I may start my own thread on this actually )

Chickydoo · 03/01/2024 21:03

Is radio frequency ultherapy ? I have only heard positive things about it.
Any info greatly appreciated. I have been debating having ultherapy for a bit of a lift.

I had a bad experience with a top London plastic surgeon. Was in agony and half my face was paralysed as he damaged one of my facial nerves.

Couldn't sue due to all the disclaimers and waivers. It took me 5 years of intense physio and a hell of luck to get some movement back and I still need Botox in one side.

I'm sure it's relatively rare but this was a top guy and I want to let you know it can happen. He couldn't have cared less.

Extendedoctopustentacles · 03/01/2024 21:16

Ibizafun was that for a face lift?

Disturbia81 · 03/01/2024 21:18

Do guys have these convos? So depressing isn't it
Not criticising you OP, I want one when I'm older! Just wish I didn't

minipie · 03/01/2024 21:56

I’m about your age OP and sometimes joke that I’ll take all the money I haven’t spent on expensive skincare, facials and aesthetics (never really done anything) and have a facelift at 50.

Increasingly it’s less of a joke and more of a plan. I am worried about the risks though.

minipie · 03/01/2024 21:59

Disturbia I know exactly what you mean. I’m torn between “shouldn’t we all just accept what an older face looks like” and “ooh, a sharper jawline would be amazing”

marrybarry · 03/01/2024 22:00

Would anyone be happy to show us a before and after facelift?

minipie · 03/01/2024 22:01

There was a thread recently - can’t remember the title but something about joining her on her journey. It started as something smaller but changed to a full facelift along the way.

Fat loss ages you

All the best. How much is a facelift ?
Im thinking 5,000 but I am just guessing.

GettingStuffed · 05/01/2024 12:41

Or you could get used to the fact that ageing is inevitable and not fight it. Then spend the money on a good holiday, or anything else you can't afford.

Agree! I've decided to wear more make up too and better clothes if I'm that bothered - much cheaper easier and more fun! Wouldn't rule it out when I'm in my 50s/60s though

minipie · 05/01/2024 15:48

I think I’ve decided it’s daft to consider a facelift when there are much healthier and cheaper options that I’m not doing, like going to bed on time and drinking more water.

Gowlett · 05/01/2024 15:53

Go for a facelift. But be aware of the pitfalls.
I pick a spot & think my face is going to cave in…

Allthatglittersisntart · 05/01/2024 15:56

Start face yoga and save money for age spot removal(assume you’ll get some from sun). I already have them (wear lots of sun cream but didnt know I needed to in winter snow).
