In what way are jeggings inferior to jeans?

I generally get numerous years worth of use out of my jeans and recently been starting to think about buying a new pair. Besides the issue of length being so variable between different styles, I was struggling to get into any pair of my normal size. As I'm hoping I might be able to shed a little weight before long, went into Next determined to find a pair. Ended up in some leggings. Sent pics to both daughters ( 21 and 28 if it;s significant) and both say no, I should avoid leggings and neither can explain the issue.

If I wear tops that at least cover most of my bum or even some down to hip length, what is the difference in appearance between jeans and jeggings?

Many thanks.

I got some jeggings from next and they're lovely. Thick and soft, with belt loops and look nice with a shirt or sweater.

I like these ones, pull on, thick fabric, belt loops, decent length.
One of the mysteries of motherhood is why I can no longer stand any kind of button or fastening on my trousers. So odd, so painful.

I have those ones in the blue. They’re the best pair of jeans I’ve had, lovely thick fabric and really comfortable. I’ve had lots of pairs of Next jeggings before and been happy with them, but these are on another level.

Me too, hate it. Uncomfortable AND unflattering as you get the bump where it sticks through under tops. I often cut the button and flap off jeans and sew the gap in the waistband together so at least there's no button bump. If the original waistband was too tight I use elastic. Still not as nice as leggings though.

On another note yoga pant type trousers aren't a bad option sometimes, M&S do some good ones.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm getting to see the common themes.

I tried on some jeggings in Next that I don't think were too thin and not overly skinny so going to try them again plus try some in M&S. I'm without a car for the next few weeks so can't get to any other shops very easily and it's just dawned on me what a scruff- bag I look in my old jeans. Too lazy to get to other decent shops and I hate buying over tinternet.

The saga will continue but thanks very much everyone :)
