How to embrace wavy/curly hair

I have naturally wavy curly hair (2c/3a I would say). I'm a bit of a wash and go girl so It's usually just a poofy mess unless I straighten it (rare). It's always tied up when I'm at work anyway. Tried curly girl co washing but it went greasy and grim after a few weeks and refreshing just didn't work.

How do I embrace the curls and get them looking good? I use a sulphate free bar soap and conditioner, today I've applied gel with praying hands, plopped for 30 mins but it's taking forever to dry with the gel on! I don't own a diffuser and don't want that level of hassle either lol.

How do you keep your curls looking good? And what's the best way to refresh

Mine takes 6+ hours to fully dry. I have long since accepted that. Im a wash & go too. I use a john frieda cream and scrunch it in and done. 🤷‍♀️

Refresh/maintain overnight - get satin silk pillowcases

I use the Aussie bouncy curls shampoo and conditioner and the leave in curl cream. It's the best range I've found and makes nice curls in my wavy/curly hair. I air dry it

I use Aussie Bouncy curls shampoo and conditioner. I then use mousse and leave to dry naturally. I actually wash my hair everyday otherwise it's just a frizzy mess as I must toss and turn in my sleep as I always wake up looking like a scarecrow.

I use Aussie conditioner spray to help style it in terms of retaining the curls and fighting the frizz.

Is your hair long? I Sometimes plait mine in about 4 plaits when it's wet and leave it overnight. It gives me lovely waves and they last a couple of days unless I brush them .

I wash mine and dry with a microfibre towel just loads of squeezing then I stick some curl cream on, comb with a wide toothed comb and kind of bounce the ends a bit with my hands. I then blast the top of my head with the hairdryer to take the worst of it from my roots and turn the hairdryer right down, hold my arm against my hair and gently blow dry the curls a bit. Normally turns out alright, better if I just let it air dry but that takes forever I don’t care enough for that!

I tip my head upside down and dry the roots with a diffuser just for a minute or so. It seems to mean more air through the rest of my hair which then dries better.

I would describe my waves/curls the same way you describe yours. I mostly co wash about once a week (using Lush Candy Rain) as mine never gets greasy. I let it dry naturally and there's a stage it gets to when I can scrunch Lush Revive into it to define the curls and stop it going fluffy.

I put it up in a pineapple overnight: tip head upside down and tie it up in a ponytail on the top of my head.

What mousse do you use @SideshowAuntSallyx ? I have wavy more than curly hair but my NY resolution is to embrace the natural texture rather than fighting it by straightening all the time. Only trouble is if I don’t straighten it’s a frizzy mess so I’m trying to find a way forward. The Aussie stuff mentioned on here seems (cheap enough) doable. I know it’s trial and error but don’t want to spend a fortune

SideshowAuntSallyx · 09/01/2024 07:53

@Yogachick just Wella Shockwaves for Curls and waves. I've used the more expensive stuff (which they always stop doing) but this seems just as good and is only around £3.

I don't like my curls crunchy or sticky and this doesn't do that. I want my curls as natural as possible even if they are uneven (which mine seem to be).

I've had compliments from strangers in the supermarket so I must be doing something right.

Do you need products for wavy as opposed to curly hair? Or maybe I’ve just been sucked in my the advertising!! My dd uses Merwave products, which work well for her fine, silky long wavy hair.
