Builder gel. Do I need to take a break from it?

Nail tech says no. There's conflicting info online.

If you get builder gel do you take a break? If so how often and for how long?

Honestly I think it depends on the person and that persons nails. Very individual.
I had builder gel / hard gel nails for about 10 years without a break (new set every 4-5 weeks). Had them off when I gave birth to my son and have never had them again (5yrs later). My nails were fine.

My friend has had them a few times for holidays and swears her nails are permanently brittle and weak 🤷🏻‍♀️

Depends on how its being removed

Remember nails dont have lungs, they dont need to "breath"

I use it occasionally , if Ive been ill and nails get soft. I do my own, and I remove it carefully and slowly, I only file of 90% of it and then soak of the rest using just an orange stick to take off the stubborn bits, then slap on the the oil overnight

All gels, acrylics etc are fine if you arent allergic, its the removal process that does the damage

I had them for 6 weeks and my nails are wrecked; soft, splitting, peeling and bending backwards part way down even doing something simple like changing the bedding.
I am using nail oil, hand cream and OPi Repair Envy but nothing’s making any difference 5 weeks after I had the builders gel removed.
Never again will I have professionally applied gels etc.
