Dyson air wrap - disappointing

Ladies, please tell me if I am doing this wrong....treated myself to it as it's returnable.

What I'm finding is

  • the automatic curl wrap only works if your hair is really wet. I have thick hair and like to dry it naturally before going to a dryer.
  • I only found out after buying it, that the anti static thing should only be used if you are drying it straight. That's disappointing. I tried it and it does indeed knock the curls out.
  • The curl barrel does get hotter than I expected.
  • The other attachments don't do much more than a Babyliss dryer.

In general, I can see it being useful if you often dry your hair in a hurry, but otherwise, no. It is very very powerful as a dryer.

Am I missing any good tips?

Rather wish I hadn't bothered, now it's a case of booking all day at home for them to collect it.

DD bought a Shark. Similar thing. It dries hair but I can’t see it’s much different to styling with a brush or rollers. V expensive.

Mine was a huge disappointment too. Felt so guilty as DH bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago. The smoothing brush was brilliant though. I did find you had to have the exact right level of dampness so my hair took ages to do as I’d have to dry it, then spray half till it was damp again as it had dried while I was doing the other half 🙄. Style never lasted either.

For curls, I found the Aurora band or Babyliss Curl Secret so much better. I just have the full size hairdryer now (I have a pixie cut) and it’s excellent.

Yes, it was. I was very surprised/disappointed. It took a long time (months) for my hair to recover.

Wow. Was the damage very visible?

I know a gym goer who uses hers every day and has done for years, her hair still looks amazing. She also uses the steam room and plunge pool daily so her hair is okay with all that. I think mine will be but only time will tell.

re the time taken, I also find that it dries the surrounding hair with such speed, if you’re using the curling part, even now I’ve speeded up, the hair is dry before I’ve done half.

it might be that I can reduce my hair washing with it though, which is something to factor in.
