Has anyone found the perfect travel tote … ?

I am driving myself a bit mad trying to find something that I’m sure should be available …

Would much rather it was leather, but definitely NOT fake leather (open to other fabrics)
Quite large, looks like a tote bag rather than a travel holdall/rucksack
Zip across at least most of the top
A pocket or two inside, zipped one outside would be great
Decent length handles to comfortably go over the shoulder even if in winter clothes
Would prefer not to have gold ‘hardware’ on it - just about any other colour fine
And, the holy grail … a sleeve to fit over a suitcase handle.

Obviously the oft-recommended MIA Tui Jennie is not going to do it, on the leather requirement.

There are some makers on Etsy who customise and it feels like I should be able to get all this, but in reality it’s not working out.

Am reasonably open to a fair budget, if I could find the right thing. If anyone has seen something I’m missing, would be much appreciated.

Why do you need a trolley sleeve so much?

Aaaach, ‘need’ is an interesting word. I have several things that don’t have a trolley sleeve that I’ve managed with for years. I have just decided I WANT one, having seen how easy and secure a friend’s Jennie was.

On that basis, there is only a point to buying a new one if it includes this thing I’ve decided I ‘need’.😆

You can buy special straps that attach any bag to suitcase handles, that could be a better bet.

My daughter has an amazing Lululemon one that I am very jealous of.

I know it's technically a baby brand but I have a Storksak travel tote that I doubt I'll ever be parted from. Its canvas but otherwise everything you describe including the trolley sleeve. 3 compartments, multiple zips, holds ton, tote rather than holdall and still fits at my feet on a plane. Mine is grey and came new with tags from Vinted for £20 instead of £195 from the shop.

Herve chapelier? Leather isn't a good idea imo as it makes it too heavy

I feel like I could go nylon or canvas, but when I actually find some they do seem to be more holdall than tote.

The Mia TUI Jennie comes in nylon as well

I would buy this, the bags are brilliant and a beautiful leather. I'd then buy a piece of matching/contrasting leather and take it to someone who could stitch it onto the outside of the bag to make a trolley sleeve. The bag is unlined so it won't ruin it.

Need to look at beis’s travel range - quite sporty looking and nylon but most have trolley straps

Lovethatforyouhun · 28/12/2023 19:24

@bloatedbobby oh i used to want a Herve chapelier in the 90s! Where do they stock these in the UK?

bloatedbobby · 28/12/2023 19:30

@Lovethatforyouhun I don’t know that they do, I just order direct.

bloatedbobby · 28/12/2023 19:31

my 90s one was a workhorse so I still use & love them!

Gowlbag · 28/12/2023 19:32

I second Beis, I have the East West tote in cream but they do lots of colours. The quality is fab and they look so stylish. Most of the bags come with a trolley sleeve and there’s lots of sizes. Do check the dimensions, mine is larger than I thought it would be, but this also means I can get loads in it. The pockets are well thought out and they have key chains which are handy. The trolley sleeves also zip up to give you an extra external pocket. You can get a 15% off code if you sign up to their newsletter.

Knomo sorry fat fingers

This is plenty big for a weekend, and they look great once they've been a bit battered.

Straps fit over the shoulder.

Very sturdy.

Thanks just found one on Vinted for £20,looks new!

LonelyFlans · 28/12/2023 22:42

I'm seriously considering a nylon (lite) version of the Mia tui jennie - I agree that a suitcase sleeve is really handy.

^^This is what I went with for travel. You can hide the straps in a different compartment if you want to use it as just a tote and it has A MILLION pockets.

@TheBirdintheCave Damn you, this looks really good!
