Please can anyone recommend a few make up essentials I need now that I've hit 50 and my make up/beauty collection is so completely random. I don't have a system or ritual for make up and feel a bit lost. What are the basics that you can't live without? I'm thinking skin care, foundation, concealer, blusher kind of thing. Happy to pay for good quality products.

Book a makeover with your nearest Trinny London. Or try their online service. I found it really helpful and friendly and I came away with some lovely but not too heavy products

Don't rush to buy anything yet, try practising some basic looks from Lisa Eldridge link to identify what you can skip and what you want to add.

Bobbi brown counter makeovers are good if you have one near.

For most people I think the basis are brows shaped and filled in, tinted moisturiser, bit of blusher.

Mascara and a neutral eyeshadow (really just a base that takes out readiness) is level 2 for me. I like a bright lipstick in the day sometimes, and a low-level Smokey eye at night.

Your skin will feel and look better if you wash and moisturise it, and gently exfoliate once or twice a week.

I like Laura Mercier and Clinique for make up. Clinique and Simple for skin care.

Tubing mascara and eyebrow threading are good things.

Plus get into the habit of a pair of earrings - small, light, slightly chunky. gold or silver hoops you never have to take off will help light up your face and make you bother.

Serum if you need to treat oiliness or dryness.
moisturiser
tinted moisturiser
cream or liquid blush and/or bronzer
cream highlighter on your cheekbones
mascara
lipstick or lipgloss.

The Trinny London stuff is great. Easy to find colours that work, quick to use.

Nars liquid afterglow blush is lovely.
Laura Mercier Tinted bronzer ditto.
