Hi,

So I was very lucky and recieved one of these for Christmas from DP. I had dropped hints that I wanted one, so it was a nice surprise.... I thought.

Anyway, I started using it this morning and wow! I really didn't like it! It feels so strange and like it can't be doing you any good. My eye was heavily twitching when the device was nowhere near it! It was just a horrible sensation and I didn't even have it on the high setting. I gave it a couple of minutes before saying no and putting it back in the box.

Really disappointed, as I had heard great things and my face is certainly starting to melt and is rapidly heading south, so hoped this could at least slow the process down if not reverse ever so slighly.

Anyone else just not get on with this and the like?

Are you using it with serum? I’d really like a go before I commit to buying one.

others have felt ‘zapping’.

You say it can’t be doing you any good,
Microcurrent devices are non-invasive and generally non-irritating, so there's no harm in using them daily.

You might also feel some tingling and facial twitching from microcurrent, which is totally normal. "The current can cause your orbicularis oculi muscle—the muscle around your eyes—to contract," says dermatologist Karan Lal, MD. "On the upper face, around your eyes, the muscles intertwine, which is why this can happen," he continues. "It's not bad; it's just the current from the device kind of transversing to adjacent muscles."

I bought a NuFace a few years ago and really hated using it, even with the gel I felt a weird sensation and the whole thing was a faff so I didn't really bother that much. I since learned there is very little data to show any significant results from microcurrent devices (unlike something like LED light which has far more research backing it). Some people swear by them but I'm not really convinced tbh..

@TwentyThreeFifteen yes, a hyaluronic acid serum, but perhaps I didn't have enough.

You need to use a gel or serum that acts as a conductor for the current, otherwise that is ultimately what will happen. They sell one to use with it, though I have heard of plenty of people using cheap generic ultrasound gel.

Well I decided to give it another go this morning with A LOT more serum. Still feels quite strange, but I seem to be able to take a higher t sonic level than the microcurrent. Anything higher than a 3 just feels too weird to me. I do have a slight twitch in my eye though 😬 and this is a few hours after using it.

Oh and I should say, my skin does (I think) look a bit tighter and glowy, but that could be down to the litre of serum I used! 😂

I use loads of boots cheapo serum and water spray when I’m using mine as you need to keep your skin very moist or it does hurt.

I would be bankrupt if I kept buying the Foreo serum as a bottle would only last me about 4 sessions.

Any water based serum works - I tried the conductor gel and found it to be a bit too sticky.

It does make a difference if you use it regularly so stick with it - I’ve had mine a few years and don’t go over a 5 or 6 setting.

What boots serum do you use? I have given up with mine because I can’t get on with the gel. Thanks!

I use mine on the highest setting. The only time I can ever feel any discomfort is when it goes over a dark hair (menopausal stubble..) If that happens it’s like a stabbing sensation.

you need a lot of gel though or it pulls on your skin
