Wardrobe refresh: ethical, natural materials and affordable?

I massively decluttered my wardrobe recently and kept roughly 40 pieces that I don't necessarily love, but do wear. There are a couple of nicer pieces like a Hush summer dress and a One Hundred Stars blouse, but otherwise it's all M&S Collection, Next, Uniqlo.

At the moment, my "uniform" is cotton t-shirt, long-line cardigan and mum/balloon jeans. I mean, it's okay, but 🥱

I'd love some pointers or inspiration on how to rebuild my wardrobe with things that I'd actually love to wear. In my head, it's all ethically sourced (read: not likely to have been made in a sweatshop), beautiful textures, quality materials (not something blended to look nice on a hanger that deteriorates after the first couple of washes).

I've got a 9mo old and I've been wearing pretty much the same clothes since my 6yo was born 😭

I'm 5'8" / 5'9". Wear a size 12 top, 10 bottom. Long torso, average legs. Feel the cold. 😅 I literally don't have a clue! I know what I like and don't like, but it's not necessarily a style I can chase. German/Scandi/probably not heels/might flash a collarbone/wrist/ankle/definitely not cleavage
😅 layers, simplicity, I do like colour, but don't really do prints.

The reason I'm starting to look now is that I only have 2 pairs of jeans that I am actively wearing atm and the situation is bad:

  • 1 light blue pair of M&S balloon jeans (comfy, bit short in the leg, not particularly flattering)
  • 1 dark blue pair of Liverpool Los Angeles mom jeans (comfy, bit short in the leg, falling off me as the lyocell/polyester/elastane blend is failing)

Also, I find shopping incredibly stressful, so tend to buy the first thing I see on a mannequin 😅

Help! 🤞🤞

There’s a brilliant list somewhere, provided by a poster on a relatively recent thread.

I buy a couple of nice bits from each collection of thisisunfolded.com

Your style sounds the same as my goal. Also currently living in 2 pairs of jeans! I bought some underwear from Rapanui recently - great quality and customer service - so would recommend them.

Could you get a session with a store stylist like at JL to work out what styles you're interested in? Then focus on more ethical brands like Community Clothing and Baukjen and buy 2nd hand on Vinted?

Baujken!
Great quality. They have a sale on just now
