I have shoulder length wavy hair that is super thick and bushy when air dried. I've had it all one length for years because I thought layers would make it more bushy but I don't know if this is the case really as it just feels so thick and annoying. I have 2 young kids and no time to maintain a fringe etc and hate having hair in my face, I just want something low maintenance that looks nice that isn't super short. Help!

Have you thought of Japanese straightening/thermal reconditioning? Essentially, it's a straight perm. Sounds like we have similar hair - thick wavy and mine's also frizzy. I've been doing this straigtheming for about 20 years now and love. It's pricey but I love it - it's just wash, comb and go and my hair looks like silk (IMO). Have to get it done every 9-12 months as the wavy and frizzy roots start looking a but odd.

Try scrunching in a curly.hair product before air drying to clump all those frizzy strands into distinct curls and waves. My thick, coarse, wavy hair gets a lot of mileage from Cantu styling custard at this time.of year. Left to its own devices, it's wider than my shoulders.

I have it in a shoulder length bob with some long layers (but no thinning because that makes it frizzier)

I'm going to go the other way and suggest if it's thick and wavy that you have layers cut in, and have a sort of curly bob.

Should be very easy to wash and leave to air dry. I just wash mine with coconut co-wash about once a week and scrunch it up and leave it alone.

I have thick hair that is wavy and frizzy not curly.
Always been told that too many layers will make it worse. I've had my hair in a shoulder length Bob for a few years. Air dries puffy like yours but sits nicely when straightened.
Decided I knew best and begged for more layers to avoid the dreaded mushroom and really thin it out.
It looked fine straightened leaving the hairdressers but the next day I actually cried. It was a puffy frizzy mess - and worse it was now kinky and curled in many directions - not in a good way. Thankfully it's grown out now.
Keratin treatments/straightening treatments work for me - I know they aren't great for hair though.

Reading as my hair is like yours! With the added bonus of now going significantly grey even though I'm barely 30, yay...

Following as my hair is just like yours and I never know what to ask for when it's cut. I currently cut it myself just one length and thin it out with thinning scissors....it looks OK but could be a lot better!

This does sound ideal really but I don't think I could justify the cost unfortunately

This is what I worry about!

I have a short wedge cut Bob.
Hairdresser uses them thinning scissors on it.
Recently bought some bed head straightening serum was a tenner for a big tub.
Stick that on before straightening while damp after washing it.
I couldn’t believe it, but it looks sleek and there is no horrible residue. I cannot STAND that guncky sticky feel from every other one I’ve tried.
It’s the only thing that has worked for my wild Barnet.

Get an undercut

I avoided bobs for years because I would get that awful mushroom head effect

Couple of years ago I got an undercut during summer so I could run without having to wash my hair every time because the back of my head would get so sweaty

It's solved the sweat problem but also miraculously I can now have a bob. It does have to be a fairly long one and not blunt and I either have to use a hairdryer to make it lie flat or really lean into the madness with salt spray. No leaving it to air dry with no product I'm afraid!
