Where are the legit websites that the scam clothing websites get their pictures from?

When I scroll Instagram I get lots of ads for stunning clothes but the websites are all Chinese scam sites (check scamadviser). But the clothes in the pictures presumably exist somewhere? I'm getting especially gorgeous complicated jumpers at the moment. Where are the originals (that I almost definitely can't afford this lifetime)?

Once I was taken in, I ordered this beautiful multi-layered skirt, and when it came, it was a screen print of the multi-layer on the kind of fabric you'd get in an Asda pirate dress-up costume. And knitted socks that were also screen-printed wool on nylon 😂

Have you tried reverse image searching on Google?

PinkyBlueMe · 22/12/2023 00:46

I did an image search for one skirt I loved and it came up on Etsy, where I then bought it from as the seller on Etsy was the genuine maker.

Reverse image search is a good idea. Not sure how to on my phone and Chrome won't let me open the site on my laptop because it's not secure or something. Am going to attach a couple of pics to this post to see if I can reverse search them from here.

I downloaded the “Google” app on my phone. To reverse image search, open the Google app and click on the camera button. You can then reverse image search using your phone camera, or from images saved on your phone.

Those printed jumpers look like they've just been Photoshopped onto the images. You can tell from the way the base jumper hangs exactly the same in both photos - it's a plain jumper and then a print somewhere just added to the photo.

AceofPentacles · 22/12/2023 06:59

Yes photoshop, look at the cuffs!

HerMammy · 22/12/2023 06:59

They've used a print found on a sample and imposed it on the jumper

Yes it’s all photoshop and not very good photoshop at that.

Kiitos · 22/12/2023 07:23

OP switching between those two images you can tell it’s photoshop. The only thing that changes is the pattern, the shape and folds etc are identical.
I suspect a lot of photos are AI too. My friend has started selling printed accessories online and has used AI to produce images of models with her products in all sorts of locations, they look very real too.

In the days before photo shop it would be easy to get one dress or whatever made for the photo. Now there is no need to even do that.

Mushroomwithaview · 23/12/2023 02:53

Oh gosh. Now you point it out, it's really bad Photoshop. I feel a right numpty for not spotting it. I was so in love with the jumpers. I suppose that's the idea. I am a fish on a hook!!

There were loads of ads on instagram for jumpsuits which looked fantastic, but, scam site. They were videos though so not sure how Google image search would work…

Mushroomwithaview · 23/12/2023 03:55

I saw the jumpsuits too! Those impossibly flattering ones? Was tempted.
