Knee high boots with a heel, 70s style

I love these R&B ones but they're very expensive, so hopefully can find a cheaper version. I love this style of boot, does anyone know where I can get a decent pair for under £250? Any idea how to style them?

I've ordered three pairs to try from jones. I'll add pics if anyone is interested. If no good, I'll order the RB ones. Thanks everyone!

I went to look at the reductions as suggested by @Petrine and a pair of boots fell into my shopping bag 😆

clowniform · 22/12/2023 12:34

Oh dammit OP now I want those brown R&B boots.
Do R&B add more styles to their sales as they go on? Or would I have to wait for a summer sale for those?

Whataretheodds · 22/12/2023 12:36

Style with midi dresses - floral - and a fake fur or sheepskin gilet, or A line cord skirt with a blouse -high neck/statement sleeves.

Petrine · 22/12/2023 12:43

I hope you find the boots you’re looking for OP. I must just say though, as a teenager myself in the 70’s, that the Devonshire boots in your photo would have been considered really dowdy back then.

I was a teenager in the 1970s. That style of boots was everywhere. You could hardly get anything else. I didn't like them then and I don't like them now as I don't like tight fitting boots but I don't think they were considered dowdy.

LakieLady · 22/12/2023 15:42

I used to have a pair almost identical to those, the only difference was that mine had a full-length zip.

They were a birthday present for my 22nd, in 1977, so very 70s!

Exactly how I plan to style! 👌

Is dowdy, frumpy? Isn't it funny how fashion works.

Is dowdy, frumpy? Isn't it funny how fashion works.

I've come to the conclusion that "dowdy" and "frumpy" mean absolutely nothing beyond the poster saying it doesn't like the item but can't be bothered finding a reason and declaring that something is "dowdy" or "frumpy" sounds more authoritative than just saying "I don't like those boots"

Those boots were everywhere in the 1970s. There's a Farah Fawcett Major vibe going on. They weren't my thing then or now. I preferred and still prefer looser, no zips, highwayman, pirate, puss in boots style boots- which is 100% irrelevant as to what you think about these boots.

willsandnoodle · 22/12/2023 17:35

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle luckily I don't worry about what other people think about my style choices. I wondered if it meant frumpy, as I'd say these are far from frumpy.

I love the tight leg boots, I don't like the feeling of the leg bit moving around if you know what I mean

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 22/12/2023 17:56

I don't know what "frumpy" is supposed to mean.

Those boots have a 70s, retro, Charlie's Angels' vibe. I like that, even although it's not a style I like for myself - if that makes sense?

I checked out John Lewis and found these, from a brand I'd never heard of, but I think they fit the brief.

I got an amazing pair from Clarks Outlet online, unbelievably only 45 quid and absolutely gorgeous. I'll see if they still have them...

Fwiw, I think they look much nicer than the R&B ones. I prefer the block toe and the sole is neater. I'm not a fan of platforms.

You get extra discount. Truly stunning at that price, a boot to love for life.

Almond toe, not block toe.

I did see these! But I prefer the wider toe for comfort

Ok, I can find a reason and can be bothered to explain why I said the Devonshire boots would have been considered dowdy. In fact I think they’re still pretty awful. Reason as follows…

They’re a ‘comfort fit’ with an ‘elastic gusset’. Trust me I wouldn’t have been wearing anything remotely like those. I think the dreadful skirts teamed with them pretty much tell the story.

I’m afraid I can’t see a Farrah Fawcett-majors vibe going on at all with those particular boots.

I love the R&B ones I have to admit!

These have a totally different vibe, more prim/staid and less cool/retro. I'd be curious to know if anyone actually likes both pairs, or would style them the same way?

willsandnoodle · 23/12/2023 07:28

@OnlyCorrect the ones you're referring to aren't my cup of tea, as I wouldn't be able to style them in the way I'll style the ones I'm after. You're right, different vibe. I appreciate their lovely boots, but not my style.

@YoullCatchYourDeathInTheFog thank you for suggesting them!
