I want a stylish one!

For me capsule wardrobe consists of blue jeans, white/pink/black vests/t-shirts but I'm sure thats not really the point of one!

If you're 39 weeks a capsule wardrobe is one of the four things that still fit you and get washed on alternate days

MrsBadger · 15/03/2008 16:45

et voila

For work, I'm trying to establish a capsule wardrobe and so far have:

One black pencil skirt
One black fishtail skirt
2 pairs of black trousers - one wide-legged and one straigh-legged
One pair of black just above the knee shorts

I mix and match these with an assortment of:
Little cotton shirts
Camisoles
Silk tops
Cardigans
V neck jumpers

And jazz them up with:
Patterned tights
Chunky necklaces
Silk scarves
Pashminas

I have so failed to be able to cope with:
A work wardrobe for when the waether is hot

A casual capsule wardrobe that is not jeans and a cashmere jumper for slob days or vaguely alternative type skirt and a black jumper for non-slob days - each worn with boots.

I'm seriously thinking of saving up to hire the wardrobe princess to come and sort me out clothes-wise.

Has anyone used this service? I really think I need some help to get rid & shop.

Ahh yes. My capsule wardrobe consists of...

1 pair stained maternity combats
1 pair green maternity cords (slightly too short)

2 maternity vests (1 bile yellow, 1 medicine pink)
2 maternity weirdy smock things (1 vile red and blue creation, 1 frankly terrifying yellow jazzy design)

1 maternity t-shirt

1 purple maternity jumper dress

1 floaty, plunge neck, sexy maternity evening top.

1 non-maternity cardigan. Grey. Button missing. Almost completely reaches over bump.

1 pair brown shoes. Flat. Slip-on to minimise bending over. What do I care, I can't see them anyway.

The beauty of this wardrobe is that everything doesn't go with everything else equally well, so I can mix and match with no fear of ever putting together a more stylish ensemble than I wore yesterday. The sexy floaty top goes particularly well with the stained combats.

Is there a limit to the number of pieces you keep or buy?

Mine's not for work btw, it's needed for looking yummy mummyish during the day

Your capsule wardrobe description is particularly evocative Broccoli. I also ended up with some oddly chosen clothes when pregnant including a pair of azure blue tights, that I bought myself for some odd reason, oh and now I remember there was a moss coloured pair as well......

I have no idea how to do a capsule wardrobe. i have tried to stop buying reduced clothing items from Sainsburys and instead purchase stylish layered items from Boden, but strangely they do not look as good on my 5ft 6 rounded figure as they do on the size 10 models.

yomellamoHelly · 15/03/2008 21:16

My winter one was

  • dark grey skirt
  • dark grey trousers
  • brown trousers (probably wrong colour choice with hindsight)
  • dark grey top
  • black top
  • black shirt
  • thick grey jumper
  • dark purple wrap top
  • dark purple cardigan
  • thin dark purple jumper
  • dark purple dress
Has been fab because even in a laundry crisis I have stuff that goes together.

Am just in the process of buying one for spring / cold summer days.
Have

  • turquoise skirt
  • turquoise vest top
  • turquoise short sleeve top
  • turquoise long sleeve top
  • turquoise cardigan
  • beige vest top
  • beige long sleeve top
  • thin beige jumper
Am on lookout for 2 pairs trousers - probably brownish. May get a dress or tunic top, depending on if I see anything. They're all slightly different shades of the same colour, so not all the same, if you know what I mean. So there is a bit of variety depending on which pieces I combine.

My excuse is that I was pg/recovering last year so needed new stuff this year, so has been good to have a focus. My intention is to wear them 'til they fall apart. Feels like much fewer clothes than I've ever had before, but wardrobe looks bizarrely organised when fully stocked.
