Hair thickening product?

HydrateYourself86 · 14/12/2023 13:59

My hair is pretty fine, I’d really like to make it look more volumous and thick.

Is there a holy grail thickening mouse/ cream/ spray that people can recommend? One that does actually make it look a bit thicker? Or am I searching for the impossible?

I like curlsmith thickening lotion, aveda thickening foam and curls n clouds volume spray

Mirrormeback · 14/12/2023 14:41

Dry shampoo is really good at thickening hair

AttillaThePlum · 14/12/2023 14:42

In the long term, I've found Bumble and Bumble Full Potential really good. It doesn't thicken the hair immediately, but stops it breaking as much, so you end up with more of the stuff...

Tigi Small Talk. You can get it in Boots or Superdrug I think. I've been using it for years.

SpottyElephant · 14/12/2023 17:32

I’ve just started using the Inkey List Peptide hair treatment which seems to be very good. I didn’t get on with the Tigi stuff - it makes my greasy hair worse.

Shampoo with rosemary extract is good for regrowth & thickening.

I use L'Occitane strength & volume shampoo. It's done wonders for my hair.

You need to use it for a couple of months to see a noticeable difference but I found it worth it.

loreal elvive

Strawberryshortcake90 · 14/12/2023 18:11

Color Wow Xtra Large Bombshell is a good volumiser and it’s also a heat protectant too.

malificent7 · 15/12/2023 06:59

A few drops of Rosemary oil in my loreal fibrology shampoo seems to be doing the trick for me.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/12/2023 07:13

Fine hair is different from thin hair, so products aimed at increasing growth won’t be the answer (unless the OP also has thin hair).

OP, I have ridiculously fine hair. Things that help are:

I only use conditioner occasionally. Usually I just shampoo, then use 1 pump of Liz Earle hair oil before drying. It smooths without making your hair flop, which conditioner does.

Then I use Aveda thickening or volumising spray (both work well) or John Frieda volumising spray plus a mousse.

pharmachameleon · 15/12/2023 09:07

I curl my fine hair with straighteners which gives it some body. I also use a volumising powder at the roots. When this is rubbed in it gives LOTS of volume. I use the Got2b one which is amazing.

HydrateYourself86 · 15/12/2023 13:01

Thanks all. Yes I wasn’t talking about hair growth specifically, more just how to make it LOOK thicker. I’ll give some of these a try, thanks :-)

I've used the got2be powder for years, and it works well on my fine hair
Cheap and easy to find
It's in a small purple shaker

How do you use it please. Do you just shake it on to the roots and brush in? @uncomfortablydumb53

Love your user name by the way.

TossieFleacake · 15/12/2023 16:32

Philip Kingsley body building shampoo and conditioner has made a huge difference to my fine hair.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/12/2023 17:16

@ChoupetteTheCat
I usually sprinkle it on my hair and rub it in at the roots, but I have short hair
Either would be fine
It's worth trying before investing in something more expensive

ChoupetteTheCat · 15/12/2023 17:21

Thank you @uncomfortablydumb53 I think I will give it a go.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/12/2023 17:29

I've found root boosting spray like Philip Kingsley raised the root really good

Also rate the color wow volumising mousse

verrymerryberry · 15/12/2023 18:44

The Kristen ESS from boots mousse is the best I have found for thickening. I don't like the small talk from tigi but I think it is because it smells gross imho

I also use either Pantene or olaplex or ouai oil and the fake WOW from Aldi and I really love it

Also a cheap buy from home bargains is the Schwarzkopf blow dry spray.

beautifulbrothers · 15/12/2023 23:31

I really liked the label m thickening products: the thickening cream in combination with the foam/mousse is great. The balance of product is key and took a couple of goes to get right.

Recently, I've started using mousse a lot more. I really like Wella Professional, but can't remember the exact mousse! It's one of the EIMI ones.

Also, other posters have recommended dry shampoo/texture spray. I found the got2b powder left a white residue and could feel a little sticky. My absolute favourite, gorgeous, but eye-wateringly expensive product is Oribe Dry Texturising Spray. You can get a small version for half the price, but the full size is much better value.

treeees · 15/12/2023 23:33

the ordinary multi peptide hair density serum works well - you have to use it for a few months (I tend to use it every other night on hairline etc).

pharmachameleon · 16/12/2023 08:06

The Got2be powder is white so will leave a little residue. I hide it by lifting the top layer of my hair and sprinkling it underneath. I then lightly rub it in to the roots and the volume is massive!

Robinonaspade · 16/12/2023 08:11

Nioxin diaboost makes my thinning hair at the scalp look thicker, its just a little too expensive for me to use regularly sadly. The nioxin hair mousse is good too.
