Make over help - with pics (gulp!)

Help need make over 😀. Finally have a bit of time now youngest is in nursery so I want to take myself in hand and get a good hair cut and colour.

This is me now: 51 years old, feeling my age and a few stone overweight (but I’m currently working on that) and primarily a carer / SAHM. I have some grey (maybe 25%) and lighter ends from when I used to box dye my hair red.

Im thinking a Wavy Lob haircut that isn’t too time intensive (30 mins) twice a week to style might work? I have a few mins max each morning for maintenance styling to get ready and Ideally I need something I can put up in a bun or ponytail so not too short.
I can get to the hairdressers every 8 weeks or so …I’d like golden/ red lights put in but no idea what to ask for ( full head / half or bayalage (sp?). Might consider a full or half fringe as my forehead is massive!
Also have really high prescription glasses that I wear most of the time now … they are quite clunky but the thinnest lenses for my blind mole like eyes! I used to wear contacts but now with middle age I can’t read in them very well and can’t be doing with that!
to complicate matters I don’t really like hairdressers … feel very self conscious with that big mirror stuck in front of me and I’m not the best at communicating what I want so any help with lingo most appreciated!

Here’s some ideas I like.
What do you think might suit me?

51? You look much younger than that!

I agree
I think a few layers would be easier to manage then a full cut. A tinted moisturiser and some blusher and you're good to go.

Soontobe60 · 14/12/2023 21:38

Lots a great suggestions for your hair - I’d also look at getting some striking new glasses. The ones you have are too narrow for your face and a bit dated. Get your hair done first then take a trusted friend to choose new ones.

Fraaahnces · 14/12/2023 21:41

The coppery colour suits your skin tone very nicely! Why don’t you try a French-style bob with the fringe? Or layered curtain bangs? I’d keep the glasses until you see how different you look with the new hair.

Bloody hell, I would never have guessed your age! I think you look great. The chin length lob would look amazing - please post back with an ‘after’ if you go for it!

Woah you don't look 51!!! You have lovely eyes

Wishfulthinking1977 · 14/12/2023 22:03

Firstly you are never 51??!! You look amazing! Second showed the pics to my daughter who is a stylist and she recommended the 2nd picture, the blonde style as she thinks it would suit your face shape best xx

pickledandpuzzled · 14/12/2023 22:07

Go with contacts and reading glasses! Much easier than heavy glasses.

Octocat · 14/12/2023 22:20

You have excellent cheekbones, OP, you have a very pretty face shape.

The two photos are so different in terms of colour, it's hard to tell which is most accurate. Have a look at working out what House of Colour you are, that will really help.

smellmel22 · 14/12/2023 22:23

You look way younger than 51 op!

PremiumRaa · 14/12/2023 22:24

You can't be 52 did you mean 41??

Your skin is lovely but your face is too long for a short cut. Do the red but collarbone length.

SpamIAm · 14/12/2023 22:26

I have nothing useful to offer other than, as a fellow thick glasses wearer, taking your glasses off while you have your hair cut helps with the whole mirror in your face situation (although it does mean I can't speak to the hairdresser because I can't speak to people when I don't have my glasses on. Don't ask me why because I have no idea).

SwedishEdith · 14/12/2023 22:37

You look like you have a cow's lick (or two?) so I think you'd struggle to keep a fringe looking flat or even.

scoobydoo1971 · 14/12/2023 22:58

You have good skin, and what looks like healthy hair. I would choose the blonde lady from the haircut styles as it is a bit longer, and enough to tie back when you want that. At that length, you could have sections cut into it (or whatever the technical speak is for that) to make it look very modern. I would definitely do your research and find recommendations for a local hairdresser. You could take a photo in and say 'I want that...', and come out with anything but that. I have had that experience rather too many times, but now have a lovely hairdresser who listens and takes her time with my head.

KeeeeeepDancing · 14/12/2023 23:17

A lob and more modern glasses would be good.

Thighdentitycrisis · 16/12/2023 09:43

I think the middle picture in the bottom row would suit you but let your natural wave come through

DidIMakeaMistake · 16/12/2023 09:45

You are not 51! Wow OP
