How to prevent "smokers" top lip

herewegoroundtheblueberrybush · 12/12/2023 20:55

So I am not and never have been a smoker, but I am starting to notice my top lip (ie the skin between my lips and my nostrils) is starting to get a bit less smooth than it used to to be, maybe the beginnings of lines.

My mum has bad lines there, she hasn't smoked since her 20s so perhaps it's genetic.

Is there anything I can do to stop it? I have to be really careful what I put on my skin because I have acne (under control with tret) but I can't use anything that could clog pores/contains oil.

Thanks!

No straws, no whistling, no other unnecessary puckering.

You might notice something but nobody else will notice.

I have this. Have stopped drinking through straws. I asked my 'doctor' (Botox administrator!) about this and he said he will try a bit of Botox in this area but doesn't recommend filler. I chickened out getting Botox there but I might try it next time. He asked me if I have a job in which I speak a lot, which I definitely do not. I think mine is genetics because my mum had it, we have big front teeth too

PS all the lotions and potions in the world won't help so save your money

All I can say is don’t play the flute! I am mostly unlined except for the vertical lip lines!

Ok no flute playing! I rarely use straws. Gosh Botox on my top lip sounds weird. I do talk for a living so that may not work

Put on a couple of stone, no wrinkles on a balloon ( I say that as a balloon and a smoker) 😆

If it’s mild then Botox will help. If they are deep and static then filler would be best

I have these and realised it's because I pucker my mouth up when I'm asleep. I wake up with my teeth clenched and my lips in 'smoker' position 😂
Was wondering about Botox too but never having had any it scares me too much I think

I'm in my 60s. I've never smoked but had pretty deep cats bum lines. The doctor I see for Botox doesn't recommend it for these. Instead she injects hyaluronic acid (a moisturiser) around the lip line. The gel moisturiser fills out the lines and gives a smooth, crease free finish but allows full mobility. It lasts about a year.

it bloody hurts while she's doing it, much worse than Botox but it's over in a few seconds. For me the only downside is that it often leaves bruising at the injection point which can last a few days but I'm very prone to bruising at the best of times.

Non smoker (sometime straw sucker), fat face but have noticed these lines. I reckon I also purse my lips when pissed off too.....

TooMuchRedMaybe · 14/12/2023 16:32

I do face yoga and one of the things I do it I take my tongue and move it side to side underneath my top lip. This is supposed to iron fine lines so they don't set.

I've realised since posting this that I whistle quite frequently 😬

Are you me @TheInfusionist ?

I do the same and have dreadfully deep lines around my lips 😩

These happen naturally around the menopause, I'm sure I've read it's because of the depletion of oestrogen.
