Tretinoin irritation

Hey all I've overdone my tretinoin (dermatica) 0.05%. I upped to every evening and as a result, my skin is painful ultra dry, very peely and so sore. Obviously I've found my limit and will go back to every other day when my skin settles down. My question is do you have any recommendations for a fantastic, soothing moisturiser that will help calm down my upsets skin in the meantime? Thank you :-)

La Roche Posay cicaplast baume is the best for Tretinoin irritation IME. Just make sure to get the original one, it also comes in a gel, an SPF version etc.

I’ve done the same. Seem to keep almost burning myself - can’t be good 🙈 I’ve mailed them and am going to drop down a level. I’m finding the 0.5 really harsh. My skin looked so much better when I was using the next one down ( can’t remember which %!) but on a daily basis.

I really rate Purito Dermide Relief Barrier moisturiser after using tretinoin. It seems to help with peeling since I’ve moved up to 1%.

I didn’t find the La Rosh Posay Cicaplast made much difference to helping my dry peeling patches!

You're probably better off: using a higher strength won't necessarily give better results - better off sticking with the formula you will use regularly, with tretinoin it's about consistent use over a longer period of time.

I read about a study which compared people who used 0.025% strength with people who used the highest strength (0.1%) and there wasn't a huge difference in their results after one year - however the higher strength users reported far more irritation.

The yellow Clinique dramatically different moisturising lotion is a surprisingly amazing ‘rescue lotion’. I’ve tried pretty much everything out there but this applied like a mask is soothing, reduces redness, moisturises etc.

Thank you all, I've gone with the La roche P. Interesting comment @Farmageddon about the lower strength but more consistent approach, I'll try the .5 with every other day again then if it's still causing bother might drop down. Bar this most recent irritation episode my skin is looking a lot better!

Use a really gentle cleanser I like super drugs cleansing balm, I just use my fingers, no cloths or anything to clean and remove make up. Then I use aldis rose oil. Once the flare up has eased sandwich the tret with moisturisers about 10 mins before and after and gradually build up to daily again.

0.05 is very strong I got up to 0.03 but then had to got down to 0.027 then 0.024 which I've stuck with as I'm worried about getting irritation again. I read a really interesting article a while ago

www.dearbrightly.com/blogs/news/are-higher-strengths-of-tretinoin-always-better

And I'm not in a rush to try to get to a higher strength now, I think consistency is key and with stronger strengths i definitely had more
irritation so used it less.
