Products I don't understand

Please can people explain in detail what the point is/what is so special about the following products.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Petroleum based strong smelling. People say it's for everything. Well clearly it's not. It's not for cleaning your hair or shaving. What is it for and how is it better than Vaseline or an oil like argan or rose hip?

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.
You have to pay it on without rubbing or it pills. It says apply makeup immediately. Why? What happens if you apply after a few minutes? How immediately? Is it a primer? A moisturiser? Do you still need a primer and moisturiser?

I'm sure there are other products. Please enlighten me and add to the list

The 8 hour cream is excellent for soothing Harry's frozen bits (I hear...)

I don't understand the point of eye cream, how is it different to face cream?

They're mostly bullshit to make people (mostly women) part with more money.

Well I think the Clarins was a primer before primer was a thing. So probably not that special now but was one of those that you could put on and it would make you look better without foundation.

8 hour cream I think has salicylic acid in it so would be better than just Vaseline for chapped skin.

Eight Hour Cream - great for chapped lips, on burns, bites, dry cuticles, have used as a highlighter on cheeks, smooth flyaway hairs, smooth hair in general, tame eyebrows etc.

Beauty Flash Balm - think of it like a ‘matrix’; put it on, don’t run it in and when you apply foundation over the top, it sets and slightly contract and ‘lifts’ the skin (slightly). It’s a primer and I moisture underneath it. Look up Lisa Eldridge on BFB - she explains it well.

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 10/12/2023 21:42

Eye cream I think is just facial moisturiser that won't sting if it goes in your eyes...

La Neige lip mask. It’s everywhere at the minute and people are obsessing over it on social media. Awful stuff!! £20 for my lips to be the most dry and cracked they’ve ever been in my life, they were fine before I started using it!

bryceQ · 10/12/2023 21:46

Eye cream is definitely a tiny pot of expensive moisturiser

Oh I love these! I wear them as gloss during the day

jay55 · 10/12/2023 22:02

8 hour cream is less greasy than Vaseline. I like it but it's not a must have. Good for rough patches on my elbows and hands.

Bearpawk · 05/09/2024 07:12

I understand what sticky lip gloss is for but I don't understand how anybody with mid length hair can wear it! The old Lancôme juicy tubes for example - awful.
Much prefer a lip oil like rare beauty.

I do like EA 8 hour cream and use it a lot, eg dry lips, to tame eyebrows, rough skin, etc. always have a tube to hand.
i don’t understand The Ordinary’s argireline solution. Looks and feels exactly like water and doesn’t seem to do anything - anyone enlighten me on its use/why it’s good?

According to beautybay.com

1) WHAT DOES ARGIRELINE SOLUTION DO?
Touted as liquid botox by dermatologists, research and controlled studies have shown that potent peptide argireline can improve the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles in areas the that are most prone to developing them, like the forehead and around the eyes. It delivers said anti-aging effects by intervening in the nerve-muscle communication, inhibiting the movement of facial muscles, preventing wrinkles from forming and reducing deeper set folds in the skin. Bonus points for the fact that also boosts collagen production, too

I have two serums from Superdrug, and read in the reviews you can layer them, but I am not sure I am using them in the correct order. I use Hyaluronic acid first and then use polyglutamic acid booster. I looked up the serum layering and it said to use thinner to thick but with these the hyaluronic is thicker than the polyglutamic. Any advice to a new facial serum user? Does the thickness of the serum differ with brand? I did have a really lovely one from Sainsburys but they discontinued it, or at least I can no longer buy it. I have found using the serum does mean I use far less moisturiser than I used to.
