Too white for a wedding guest dress?

It’s not lacey or floaty, but it is basically white with flowers. Would you give this dress a swerve for a wedding? It’s in Greece in the summer, so I might be better off picking something looser anyway. But I like this a lot, it’s a good shape for me, and it’s reduced - can’t resist a bargain!

Too white and too short!

StaunchMomma · 10/12/2023 20:49

Yeah, I agree - swerve.

No one in rl cares if it's too white.

Yes, they do.
A then friend of mine turned up at my wedding in a floor length white dress, no flowers, just white.
Its not the reason I haven't seen her in years, but it contributed.
It's just bad form.

LookItsMeAgain · 10/12/2023 22:21

If you have to ask, it’s too white.

Out of all of the other colours in the spectrum, why do women have this type of issue with dressing as a guest at a wedding?

Tawlk · 10/12/2023 22:24

I like it, I don’t think it’s too white as it has a pretty obvious print with colour all over it. Certainly wouldn’t bother me as a bride.

HardcoreLadyType · 10/12/2023 22:30

I don’t really like it, but we can’t all have the same taste.

But I do think a double thickness of polyester would be hot hot hot in Greece in the summer, even if the wedding is planned for the evening.

Go for something cotton. Also, there are likely to be lots of lovely dresses in the shops in the spring - maybe wait until then.

Birdcar · 10/12/2023 22:48

Too white and generally not suitable.

Katy231 · 10/12/2023 22:51

Hmm ... Too white.

exaltedwombat · 10/12/2023 22:52

If you think it MIGHT be too white for a wedding, it's too white.

Maddy70 · 10/12/2023 22:56

Absoute no no from me ...
Too white , too short

caringcarer · 10/12/2023 22:59

Inappropriate.

AllIsCalmButImNotBright · 10/12/2023 22:59

89% polyester outer, 95% polyester lining, all the rest is elastane.

As PPs have said, it wouldn’t be comfortable in a hot climate.

FreshWinterMorning · 10/12/2023 23:00

Too white. And just... no!

Zone2NorthLondon · 10/12/2023 23:01

I see all the no white! Naysayers have descended. There is no such no white at wedding generalised rule. Only on mn is it a gross social faux pas. Let’s be clear the bride is the one down the front, with the groom, it’s clear who the bride is. Female Guest Wearing white won’t be mistaken for the bride and followed by gaggle of overdressed bridesmaids or press ganged into vows by a priest

sprigatito · 10/12/2023 13:25

It's too white I think (and it's gopping)

GOPPING!!!! That's a brilliant word! 😆

A simple 'yes it's fine' would have done. If that's what you think.

Genuine question in what way is it bad form did the groom get confused? Were you challenged to prove you were the actual bride? She wore white, so what. In what way did it actually impact upon your day? Sure you’re evidently unhappy but how did it contribute to such a rift.

Snippit · 10/12/2023 23:20

I’d choose something with cotton or linen for Greece. Although at my brothers wedding the brides mother wore a white dress, everyone was astounded, and it was a traditional church wedding.

Redlarge · 10/12/2023 23:21

Its not very nice

FreshWinterMorning · 10/12/2023 23:22

@Zone2NorthLondon do you REALLY need to ask why it's bad form to wear white to a wedding - as a guest? FGS! Hmm

Shitzngiggles · 10/12/2023 23:24

It's going to be way too hot in Greece to wear that.

REALLY! 🙄are you really going to insinuate the bride will be upstaged or guests and pets will be confused if another woman wears white. But who is the the bride. Oh really. What histrionic rubbish. It’s pretty self evident who is the bride, they’re down the front, or being followed by a group of women dressed like quality street sweeties. Let’s not make out it’s a catastrophic event.

Remaker · 10/12/2023 23:42

Yes too white and as someone who lives in a hot country, you will melt in that dress. And it’s too formal and structured for a destination wedding. You’d look really out of place. You need something light and floaty in a natural fibre.

Well a simple "no" could have done for the naysayers.
