Starter make-up set for 14 year old dd

Hoping you can all help me with suggestions for my dd. I never wear makeup and am really clueless. She want to give it a go but neither of us are sure where to start. I'm looking to spend up to about40 pounds on a nice box set for Christmas so dd can do some experimenting and see what suits her.
Thank you!

Ooh thank you! You might be underestimating quite how clueless I am. Is the first set eyeshadow? The colours are lovely.

Do you know if she's after a bit of "enhancement" type makeup (i.e. bit of mascara, blush), or having fun with brightly coloured eye makeup?
If she's really not sure, you could put together a few basics and add a cheap eye shadow palette for fun.
You will need:
Primer (not foundation)
A blush/contour/highlighter palette
Setting powder
Liquid concealer
Mascara if you think she will use it (is she likely to want to put stuff that close to her eyeball?)
One large powder brush
If she wants fun eyeshadow:
A set of two eyeshadow brushes, one round, one angled for detail
An eyeshadow palette in colours of her choice. Pink shades are easier to apply and more forgiving than green or blue.

Also, makeup remover e.g. micellar water and an oil based foaming cleanser, you can buy reusable bamboo pads, or cotton wool ones to start with.
I'm not sure you'd get all of that for £40 nowadays though

@countingdaysuntilretirement yes the first one is an eyeshadow alerts I believe. You could consider getting her a makeup brush set by Real Techniques and then giving her the remaining money from your budget in vouchers for her to choose some makeup.

Instead of buying a big box set (normally they’re very much a quantity over quality situation and a waste of money) I’d maybe just buy her a few of the basics and a makeup bag to put them in.

DD started off with:
Mascara
An eyeshadow pallete
Lip gloss
Concealer
Foundation
Blush
Bronzer
Brow gel
A set of brushes + makeup sponge

If she’s going to start experimenting with makeup then skincare is really important. A gentle cleanser, maybe some micellar water and moisturiser is really all she needs at that age x

Depending how much she wants to do with it. PLouise make up do a makeup academy for U16s for around £22. They get a full day of tutorial stuff and practice.

then you get 30% off everything in the store too. And the PLouise cafe is fab. We had a brilliant day (my DD is 10, but loves make-up).

Deffo (Superdrug) vouchers as @Britpopbaby said.
Choosing makeup, playing with testers etc is half of the fun. And getting the right match is half the battle.
Less fun to wrap up but so much better.

Maybe, as PP said, Real Techniques brushes if you want to wrap something? These are good, but not especially expensive.

That's brilliant - thank you all. I think she's after glamming up rather than everyday wear for now so something a bit dramatic is good. The budget is a bit of a guess - I'm not keen to spend too much on something she might not use.
The PLouise course looks amazing but it's a very long way away. I'll see if there is anything similar locally. If I get vouchers she won't know where to start so I'm aiming to get a selection she can have a go with - maybe vouchers for later.

Space NK do a makeover masterclass for £45 - then you can redeem the cost on products.

I would have a look at the make up brand, Elf.
Their make up is good quality and cheap for how good it is. they do some lovely cream blushers and mini eyeshadow palettes. I think if you spend £35 + on their website, you get a free gift too.

Real techniques brushes are great, Amazon usually have them on discount.

Body Shop is brilliant for this. Get the basics and then she can add to the collection. And very hypoallergenic. They also do nice brushes
