How to be more like an Amanda when I'm very much Julia? Using for context, if anyone watched the show you'll get what I mean!

Amanda is a perfect example of how someone tall, slim and attractive can still look frumpy/mumsy - when the dreaded word comes up on here people always so it's related to weight but look at her in the school raffle episode and to me she nails it. And those awful raffia wedges, give me Meg's clumpy trainers any day.

I think it was her posture that was odd in that episode, not what she was wearing. She was standing in a strange way with her legs apart. It was all part of her character.

Amanda liked to dress up quite sexy though like at Christmas, Halloween & when they were painting over the graffiti she got changed.

I dress nothing like her but I wouldn't call her frumpy,

I love Lucy Punch.

Julia’s clothes are always completely hideous, whether she’s wearing work clothes (see above) or casual clothes. I thought that was the idea but reading these comments makes me think I may be wrong!

I just watched the Christmas episode where Amanda goes to her ex DH and his new wife for dinner and they are wearung the same dress.
Amanda looks like she's a looroll cover dolly It's hideous

I like her jeans, loafers and linen shirt look and she had a beautiful tweed dress/mini skirt on that was fab. She has a lovely figure. Agree the power dressing suit was awful but like a pp, I was stressed looking at her slowly get destroyed!! Well she’s a massive fan of the Mom Jean(highly fashionable- looks awful on many) and quirky jumpers. Her look is unkept and thrown together but it is actually fashionable. Just not something many aspire to or can pull off…

Bit like the fact that teenagers at the moment walk around in their PJ bottoms it seems. Fashionable but I wouldn’t get away with it.

I have watched them on Netflix, last episode is the school bike ride for charity when Julia finds out Kevin and Amanda had sex.

@Bringonthesunforthewashing I think the last Christmas special isn’t on Netflix. The first one is, where they go to Amanda’s Christmas drinkies (and Julia has red tinsel tied around her head and tracksuit bottoms with a fair isle jumper 😄)

You're not wrong, @AmethystSparkles - Julia is surely the worst dressed woman on tv. She looks like she's gone through a charity shop in a hurry and just found approximate sizes.
I always think she's not meant to be stylish, she's meant to be permanently on a back foot and out of the loop. She had a hideous purple puffa coat one episode that was the ugliest coat I've seen, so it's got to be deliberate.
Amanda looks good because she takes time and care over her appearance and probably reads the glossies for inspiration.

I know! I didn’t want to post a spoiler but it was unexpected. I loved it but remember at the time it was controversial as people just wanted a comedy. I thought it was beautifully done though.

It's really interesting how people are describing Julia's clothes as more fashionable than Amanda's - this may be true, but the end result is that she generally looks (very deliberately) terrible. I think of her as spending most of her time in mom jeans or tracksuit bottoms and a stained sweatshirt. Lots of what is fashionable isn't at all flattering - Amanda's clothes may be behind the times but she knows what looks good on her and sticks to it. Style >> fashion every time.
