Which high street stores will only have fashion /current styles?

I accepted long ago that my body shape is not really made for fashion and embraced style instead. I've managed to curate a wardrobe I'm happy with but feel it gets a bit stale.

Whilst I don't chase fashion it'd be a happy coincidence for me to find some current items which fit my style but most stores seem mass appeal and I would like to narrow down the selection to pieces which are in fashion.

Is there anywhere on the high street that will pretty much only stock on trend items? Zara seems to be one, any others?

New Look
Primark
H&M

Not all Zara's are equal. Was in the Knightsbridge one yesterday and it was lovely. Last time I was in the Cardiff one it was like a jumble sale of hideous tat!

River Island?

Thank you, mainly shops I avoid because they're full of teenagers but I guess that should tell me something! I'll go on a quiet day for a browse.

See, I would say all these are 'mass appeal' stores, but that's not too say they're not also selling what's 'in fashion '. Not necessarily mutually exclusive IMO.
What sort of things are you generally drawn to? While there is a lot of homogeneity on the high street, the COS version of what's in fashion will be different from Massimo Dutti from M&S from New Look etc etc

Are you living in a previous century? Grin Or by anywhere on the high street do you actually mean online?

You have access to infinite variety via the internet. The only question is how much do you want to spend?

The whole point is that she doesn't want infinite variety.

The internet will happily sell her a wide variety of (depending on your personal taste) tasteful, flattering, comfortable, practical garments which will make her look like a refugee from 1993.

The OP wants to go to a shop (real or virtual) that only sells clothes which are more or less on trend for 2024 and isn't just for teenagers. So she doesn't accidentally come home with a wolf fleece.

I think H&M is quite a good place to get your eye in, OP, even if you don't end up buying from there.

My point was that if the OP specified a budget people could direct her to online stores that only deal in fashionable clothes - or even to brands that create the styles that become fashionable. I could name a dozen ‘on trend’ places not apparently aimed at teens, but they might be either too cheap or too expensive for the OP’s purposes.

Got it, I misunderstood your point. I personally find it easier to get my eye in in actual stores though, as long as they're well presented.

Stradivarius?
Primark?
New Look to a point but like Zara not all stores are equal. In fact they vary a lot.

PrimaniTu · 12/07/2024 07:34

@TwinklingLightsEverywhere are you on Instagram?

If so take a look at wearetwinset they seem to take the nice pieces from the high street and mix them with their own neutral stylish clothes. However they don't seem to wear much colour!

I find Instagram a good way to keep up with trends and to keep my wardrobe current.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/07/2024 07:35

Get onto ASOS - huge range of styles for all sizes and budgets.

I suspect, @TwinklingLightsEverywhere, that you may want to move a little up market from basic High St if you want reliably fashionable items that won’t make you feel you’re cos-playing a 15 year old. (Although you may want to accept a slightly slower turnover of clothes.) You don’t mention a context or your lifestyle so these suggestions can’t be tailored specifically to you - but they’re basically grown up fashion:

American Vintage
Ganni
Cos
Goodhood Store
Massimo Dutti
Studio Nicholson

But really it would be easiest to go straight to:

Net-a-Porter

browse the new stuff and then (if budget is a factor) see what seems most relevant in their sales. If you don’t already shop there, be assured it’s not all £1k dresses - they stock plenty of brands at prices not much more than the High St.
