What cleanser toner and moisturiser do you use ?

Is there a holy grail of items or do we all use a mix?

I have some Clinique, Aldi and boots items but there is such a huge range I don't know if there is something I could be trying that will make a lot of difference.

Currently using Elamis pro collagen cleansing balm followed by some sort of Elamis moisture drops, Clarins serum and Espa moisturiser.

No toner most days but I do have an Elamis one. I really like those three brands.

Do we really need toner?

EveWinter · 04/12/2023 07:13

Not sure I do @RampantIvy but it does smell nice.

I don't know - this is the Aldi one that I use in fact I'm nearly out and not sure if they have it in store at the moment so may need an alternative.

It's like the rip off of pixi but a purple colour. Can't remember the name but it's about £4 and I really like it.

I think the main ingredients in most routines should include

Day
Cleanser (my fave is body shop chamomile balm, but i like wishful cleanser too)
Vitamin C Serum (i use obagi)
SPF (Helios)
Moisturiser

Night
Cleanser
Retinol ( I use ZO)
Moisturiser

I like peptide moisturisers - very moisturising
My main is a mix of Obagi and Wishful

stillholly · 04/12/2023 07:20

My moisturiser is 30 spf too so that saves a step at least.

Never used vitamin C stuff.

Toner is useful to remove all last traces of makeup, excess oil etc. I use Obagis clenziderm, found it amazing for tightening pores

coffeestrongblacknosugar · 04/12/2023 07:22

Toner was described to me as 'the rinse cycle of a washing machine' it is to remove the pre cleanse, cleanser from your skin, ready to start afresh with your moisturiser afterward.

I use Dermalogica daily microfoliant, or Kaeso cleanser, a foam cleanser for my lashes - all done in the shower in the morning, then a cool blast of water on my face (toner) I use summer Friday or dermalogica active moist moisturiser

I have many new things to try though with my advent calendar items, Eve Lom cleanser, Elemis, looking forward to trying out all my new items.

Vit c is not a "must" but I've found it enormously beneficial for a really lovely skin glow

evryevrytime · 04/12/2023 07:29

I'm currently using:

Cleanser - REN Evercalm in the morning, Farmacy Green Clean at night
Toner - Pixi glow once a day
Serum - La Roche Posay, can't remember which one
Cream - Emma Hardie Protect & Prime in the morning, Sunday Riley ICE at night

I have very dry skin and this works really well for me. The products aren't cheap but I use them sparingly and always buy at least 20% off.

widowtwankywashroom · 04/12/2023 07:49

Double cleanse every night, currently Facialist lemon oil followed with Aveeno oat cleanser, always double cleanse at night
Face oil
Moisturise
Morning - quick wipe with toner then moisturise if I am not going out and just staying in the house
Morning if out - cleanse serum moisturise then make up
I also throw a quick paula choice exfoliate in once a week along side a quirt of dermatica

RampantIvy · 04/12/2023 08:13

My morning routine is - wash face with soap and water, serum then moisturiser.
I am currently using Bodyshop Drops of Youth followed by Nivea SPF50 Dark Spot Control moisturiser. Not that I need SPF50 in the current low light levels, but I am using up what I have.

In the evening I am currently using Bodyshop vitamin E facial cream cleanser if I have been wearing make up, followed by a wash with soap and water, then Drops of Youth serum and Garnier Revitalift Night cream. A real mixed bag.

I have even tempered normal/combination skin that doesn't get temperamental if I change things around, which I do quite frequently. I find that creams for very dry skin are too greasy for me and just sit on top of my skin rather than getting absorbed. I never notice if my skin glows more or looks dull. It just looks the same all the time to me. I have been told that I have good skin for my age (65).

Unless you have very temperamental or sensitive skin I'm not convinced that the expensive brands are any better than cheaper brands of skincare.

Clinique face wash and Clinique DDML. I don’t use toner.

TheOGCCL · 04/12/2023 08:29

Morning I use Cerave hydrating cleanser, evening Cerave oil cleanser or Alpha H balancing cleanser. At the moment I use Cerave PM moisturiser both morning and night. I use Hada Labo hyalauronic serum AM and Dermatica PM. I try not to get addicted to expensive things I expect to repurchase for years and also because I think there are good products at all price points, also consistency is key so I don’t like to chop and change.

milkydress · 04/12/2023 08:38

Body shop - chamomile balm. One of the best I've ever used.

WeRateSquirrels · 04/12/2023 10:29

Inkey List oat cleansing balm and Beauty Pie Super Healthy Skin moisturiser. No toner. I'm too sensitve for the acid ones and don't see the point of the ones that are just nice smelling water.

MotherWol · 04/12/2023 11:12

Current routine:

Cleanser: AM Cerave hydrating foaming oil, PM M&S rose cleansing balm to remove makeup followed by Cerave.

Toner: Sali Hughes Placid (not daily, couple of times a week)

Serum: Sali Hughes must-C daily

Moisturiser: AM: Origins Gin Zing (don't love this but it's fine for now), PM: Origins Night A Mins (do love this though). Couple of times a week I use a facial oil as well.

My skin is looking so much clearer these days since I started using a toner and vitamin C serum regularly. I don't like having a complicated routine and this is about as much as I can be bothered with.

MademoiselleFrenglish · 04/12/2023 11:18

I love the Avène face wash. Can't remember the name but it's good for oily skin and comes in a big see through squirty bottle, the product itself is blue. Reminds me I need to buy more.

For moisturiser I use an Uriage gel one, only bought it a couple of weeks ago but it's good so far, very lightweight and can't feel it on my face once it's sunk in. At night I use a massive pot of Cerave that DH and I are trying to get through, it's just a bit heavier.

ChristmasBaublesandMore · 04/12/2023 11:26

I've used everything from REN, Clinique and other brands to some cheap as chips and you know what- there is no difference.

I'm currently using Waitrose Pure cleaning milk. It's £2.50 for a large bottle and is brilliant. No perfume, creamy, takes off make up.

I finish off with a facecloth soaked in hot water.

Moisturiser again, I've moved from brands costing £45+ to Olay Regenerist from Amazon for £15.

After decades of spending a lot on skin care, I think it's all smoke and mirros.

My most expensive item is Ultrasun face lotion, spf 50 which I use every single day.

ChristmasBaublesandMore · 04/12/2023 11:28

I've also got a couple of facemasks from Evolve Beauty.
One is a chocolate one (exfoliating), another is fruit acids, and the gold one has some retinol in it.

I buy them in their Outlet online store for half price.
