Moisturiser stings/burns my face - big help please

Really at the end of my tether. My skin is dry but moisturiser literally feels like it is burning my face and actually makes it bright red before I desperately have to wipe it off.
It has always happened but has got worse in the last few years. I'm 38 years old.

I have tried No 7 moisturiser, Elizabeth arden ones including the 8 hour one, cheaper ones, ones for sensitive skin, and also the 'skin and me' moisturiser.

I cleanse every night, use my skin and me prescription (mild stinging) and then the moisturiser which is awful and usually has to come off.
Every morning I cleanse, prime and then use a light/sheer foundation.

Nothing else stings my skin! I've got elizabyh arden serums etc and they're fine.

What the hell is going wring with moisturiser and does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much

I'd suggest you try a new range for sensitive skin

I find Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser really gentle

As others have said it's the active ingredients in the skin and me that have damaged your skin barrier.

When my skin was stinging like that the only thing I could tolerate was hyaluronic acid (the superdrug own brand one, they have two and I use the one with more aqua), squalene oil, cetraban and Vaseline to seal it all in.

My skin is reactive so I frequently use cosrx balancium which has ceramides in that help repair the skin barrier, the ordinary has a new balm in with ceramides in too but I haven't tried it, it's called soothing and barrier support serum. I've heard cerave recommended a lot too but it also has niacinamide alongside the ceramides with my skin doesn't seem to like.

@saxendi thanks so much for recommending this range. It is the first moisturiser that feels beautiful on my face and doesn't burn!

I agree with stopping skin and me, but if you want a rest from all conventional moisturisers and all their added ingredients, try aloe vera gel. The pure gel, not the stuff that is mostly alcohol or other ingredients and only has a small % of aloe Vera juice.

It’s so soothing if your skin feels irritated!

I have crazy sensitive skin and the only moisturiser I can use is la Roche posay toleraine
if it’s v dry I use Egyptian magic as a mask.

I can’t use hyraluronic acid as I react - so can’t agree with pp on that

would suggest removing anything you’ve introduced or increased since reactions start and building back up one product at a time to test

good luck - it’s such a pain bring sensitive!

Mine stings to high heavens if I've been out in the wind and elements. If I've been at bike or inside all day it's fine and no sting.

*at home all day

don't know where that bike came from
