How much to tip hair wash girl?

I hate going to the hairdressers, I feel so out of place and awkward!
I had found the perfect place for a dry trim, and went happily for years, but they didn’t reopen after lockdown.
I’m now booked into a new place and it’s a wash, cut and blow dry. I always tip the hairdresser but how much do I tip the young girl that washes my hair? Do I hand her a tip as she sits me down for the hairdresser or when I’m paying the whole bill, do I just say ‘give £x to the young girl’?
TIA

I never have. I only tip at Christmas and I give my hairdresser a tenner usually. This year I've only been once so no tip this year.

I tip a fiver if they are doing a good job usually before we leave the basins, I don’t tip my expensive hair stylist.

I tip £10 each to the colourist and hairdresser, £5 to the girl that washes my hair.
I always pop to the shop beforehand to take out two 10s and a 5 pound note.

I just give the girl on the till £10; and ask them to split it as they see fir.

Well my haircut is only £25. Small town salon.
I don’t even want my hair washed, I hate the smell of the shampoo & conditioner so have to come home and wash it again.
How I miss my dry trim lady.

My hair appts cost £150+ and I usually end up tipping £10. I have decided not to tip anymore. But if I was paying £25, then I'd probably tip £3/4. I always heard that the people who wash hair earn very little as they're essentially being trained on the job so the training is in lieu of a proper wage?

I leave a pound for a girl who is washing my hair. My haircut is a bit more expensive but not much. Small town salon as well, she is not an owner.
I absolutely hate tipping, it’s so confusing. I buy Xmas present to my hairdresser but it’s because I like her.

The hairdresser washes my hair. I don't tip because the cost is already extortionate.

Hadalifeonce · 01/12/2023 01:48

Having my haircut has become so expensive, I no longer tip.

TootOnTheBends · 01/12/2023 18:22

Bit of a mix then really.
At least I won’t be worrying I’ve done the wrong thing-whatever I do.
I will assess as I go along and decide, depending on the service/cut.

This.

Never tip. Never seen anyone else tip in the salon. Don’t know anyone who tips.

(Higher end South London salon.)

No, I bloody hate tipping - if a haircut is advertised as £50 then that’s what I expect to pay and it’s up to them to apportion it fairly. It shouldn’t be up to customers to top up low wages.

mondaytosunday · 01/12/2023 21:40

Couple quid. If my hair cut is costing £50 then £2 to washer and £5 to stylist. Mind you it's been ages since I had a separate hair washer - my last 'senior stylist' who charges £75 washed my hair herself. I tip her £10.

BeaLola · 01/12/2023 21:41

I don't as the person who cuts my hair also washes it - I leave her either a couple of £ or sometimes £5
