Last year Hush dress for a Christmas party this year?

Can I still wear this? I could wear it with my Docs along the lines of the photo .. it’s dinner but kind of a trendy, chilled place.. but any other shoe options/ ideas? What about opaque tights? I read some article about Gen-Z embracing opaques and ballet flats 😮🚫 Even of that was bang on trend I’m not sure I could go there again! For reference I’m 43, size 10.

I think it looks terrible with bare legs/sheer tights and boots.

Aside from that I'm puzzled by just about every question.

Why do think you can't wear it?
What's so shocking about opaque tights and ballet flats?

If I were wearing it, I would wear either flat, laced boots or ballet flats, both with opaque tights.

RobertaFirmino · 28/11/2023 22:06

Yes, of course you can wear it. Why on earth couldn't you? Because it is from last year? For crying out loud...

Frasers · 28/11/2023 22:09

You can wear a dress for longer than a season, it’s acceptable op.

coffeeeclairsarethebest · 28/11/2023 22:12

It's lovely, OP, and I think styling it like the model photo would be great.

Pinkpinkplonk · 28/11/2023 22:14

The dress is lovely. Dms for Xmas dinner?? That’s up to you!
High stilletto boots!

Riverlee · 28/11/2023 22:16

Of course you can wear a dress more than one season!

HardcoreLadyType · 28/11/2023 22:20

It’s lovely, and I like the way it’s styled.

Absolutely wear it!

PARunnerGirl · 28/11/2023 22:20

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle Because I wouldn’t call it classic in style and often things like that date more quickly.

Do you remember ballet flats the first time around?! Soggy feet/ tights, tatty frayed heels, plantar fasciitis.. awful shoes!

Sorry you’re so easily puzzled 😢

@RobertaFirmino Don’t cry out loud 😅 I just mean I wouldn’t exactly call it classic in style and sometimes that means an item feels dated more quickly.

@Pinkpinkplonk I’ve got a pair of Kurt Geiger boots like that but they are certainly not the comfiest choice! Will try them on though 😊

mrmagpie · 28/11/2023 22:25

I like it. It's not dated or anything, that kind of dress is a sort of Christmas party classic in my opinion.

I'd wear it with sheer black tights and chunky black boots. Not DMs because I hate them but if you like them then I think they would be fine. You could also go with a block heeled black ankle boot to be more dressy. I'm also 43 and spent many a year with soggy feet in ballet flats (I live in Scotland) so I definitely wouldn't be reviving those!

PARunnerGirl · 28/11/2023 22:25

@coffeeeclairsarethebest @HardcoreLadyType Thank you! 👗😀

PARunnerGirl · 28/11/2023 22:26

@mrmagpie Thanks! So like a chunky/ platformy type of boot?

Ooohhhh lovely glam it up!

Nothing wrong with dinner shoes, for just sitting in!!

InSpainTheRain · 28/11/2023 22:50

I think I just entered a different world! You only wear a dress for 1 season? What's wrong with opaque tights and flats? Why couldn't you wear it (assuming it fits)? But I hope you enjoy your event OP!

PS I work with all blokes in IT so its curry and beer wearing jeans and t shirt 😀

pacora · 28/11/2023 22:53

The oldest thing in my wardrobe is more than 30 years old and I still love it and wear it when I can.

PARunnerGirl · 28/11/2023 23:20

@InSpainTheRain @pacora I’ve got a coat from when my mum was in her 20s in my wardrobe. My point is that I wouldn’t say that this is a classic style and that often means something can look dated more quickly.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/11/2023 07:01

This is silly. Of course you can wear it. Black tights and boots - job done. I think ballet flats would be horrid with it, but if you’re really desperate to be ‘on trend’ you could try heeled Mary Janes.

EarringsandLipstick · 29/11/2023 07:04

OP, it's gorgeous, especially styled with sheer tights & the chunky boots option. I love people who can pull that look off!

(And I'm also with you on the ballet flats, and perplexed as to why we wore them for so long first time!)

sparklefresh · 29/11/2023 07:09

Why wouldn't you be able to wear it? Does it matter that it's from last year? I think it's nice!

Each to their own but I don't think anyone pulls off sheer tights and chunky boots. The model in OP's post doesn't.

Cupofteaandpacketofbiscuits · 29/11/2023 09:01

I like it, it's slightly 60s so I'd wear it with black tights and some block heel Mary Jane shoes.
