You must be new to these parts. They're not nice but to my eye they're no worse than other trainers. Seen worse on here many times.

They're not even the most expensive.

Trainers

New-ish in that I dont tend to read a lot of S&B unless something jumps out that might be of interest.

Personally I'd rather distress my own stuff through natural wear and tear but others mileage may vary. Theyre not for me either but no more or less than some other stuff ive seen on here.

Another day, another mumsnet envy-thread about Golden Goose

To be honest I doubt anyone is envious. They are awful.

The only people I have seen wearing them are influencers on Ista. who seem to have been swept up in the idea that money = style and those who blindly follow certain Ista pages.

Wintersgirl · 29/11/2023 13:45

Suddenly my husband is in fashion. 😆😆

Envy? You're kidding right? They're fucking vile!

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 29/11/2023 13:48

I love golden goose but even they are a step too far for me!

Mammajay · 29/11/2023 14:05

Reminds me of the jeans that have huge lumps cut out of the knees

CharlotteRumpling · 29/11/2023 14:06

Posters on S and B: I grew an extra head overnight which won't fit through my Arket cashmere turtleneck
Most posters: Oh no, how terrible!
Some posters: You must be jealous..Extra heads are all the rage where I am.....

I know of about 4/5 women on the school run in these.

No one moans about £350+ Didrikson coats, but GG gets both barrels for some reason.

I see women on the school run in hideous expensive things, lovely expensive things, hideous cheap things, and lovely cheap things. Ditto the men though I don't know as much about menswear to be able to identify as many pieces. How is any of this relevant? It isn't.

Relevant because many people are saying GG trainers are only for fools etc. when actually a good few people wear them. Not just thickos

It is not about the cost of GG. Nobody is saying D coats are too expensive because they look like quality clothes and will last years.

However if GG cost ten quid they would still be too shoddy looking to buy.

Influencers are paid to promote them and some people blindly copy them.

It can't be stupid if people do it is not quite the winning riposte you think it is 😁

The volume of users doesn't automatically mean everyone who wears them isn't a fool, maybe there are more fools than you thought?

And give then phrase "a fool and their money are soon parted" fool appears to be the correct word here. You are the only one who has decided fool = thicko 🙄

It's DERELICTE!

This was my immediate thought, too!! 🤣

itsmyp4rty · 29/11/2023 15:55

I quite like them and would happily pay £20.

Animalprinteverything · 29/11/2023 16:16

I don't quite get the price tag or why you'd wear them. They look nicotine and piss stained.

Photo below is another example of batshit fashion. £300 odd on Etsy. Could be a fetish thing, I don't know.

Please tell me this is a joke that's gone over my head

Yes, I might go to £30 if they threw in a pair of jeans. One great thing about the cost of debt going up is that a lot of the "influencer" type shite is just going to evaporate, young mugs were buying the heavily promoted items on credit at zero rates, it will be a lot harder now to pretend that you are "hip" because you bought a shoe that some twonk on the internet was babbling about.

TheNinjaWife · 28/11/2023 08:02

I have very similar ones, although mine are in black. Coincidentally also knotted the same. They are leather converse ones circa 2003 also with a ‘white’ star.
They live in our garage to be worn when I mow the lawn.

Hey, they might be worth big bucks now! Try selling them for 500 pounds and see if anyone bites.

HarrietStyles · 29/11/2023 20:37

I can imagine the designers sat around a table laughing “let’s create the most disgusting ugly trainers we can imagine, charge hundreds of pounds for them, tell everyone that they are Uber cool…….. and watch the try-hard idiots line up to buy them!”

ilovesushi · 30/11/2023 10:24

That is mental! Can I have the job of scruffing them up? I do a lot of country dog walks. I could get through loads in no time and get them really manky really quick.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2023 15:00

They look almost identical to the pair of trainers (or trabs as we used to call them) that I was made to wear for PE after "forgetting" mine to try and get out of PE which I detested with a passion. You can imagine all the Oh l love your trabs where did you get them from. 😂. As you can well imagine I never tried that trick again.

MichelleScarn · 30/11/2023 16:43

They remind me of my manky Army issue silver shadows!

Worked well in the "cheap money" era, many of the public are really gullible and easily triggered by advertising that says - "You need this if you want to look hip when you are out spending your borrowed money", just look at how much absolute tools who work in moderately paid jobs. are paying for phones and clothes? In the new era a lot of these clown show chancer designers will be bust, and that is a good thing.
