Laser hair removal - Is it really permanent for underarm?

I am currently in the early stages of researching laser underarm hair removal as an alternative to shaving, and I'm seriously considering it for a more permanent solution. I'm curious to know if anyone has experience with laser hair removal. Specifically, how many sessions are generally required? Is it quite expensive? What is the typical cost, and is the result genuinely permanent and reliable?

Will I need any additional laser treatments after a few years, or can I expect to forego shaving or waxing entirely after completing the full course?

Any advice would be really helpful. 😊

I started laser course at a salon years ago. It firstly slows down when regrowing, then it just stops. Its not permanent, its does start coming back a bit fluffy and thinner than before. I got a machine myself at home and keep on top of it. Was a literal life changer for me.

Lighter skin and darker hair is best for removal and results vary so amount of sessions needed is different per person. I had 6 with laser lady and was hair free for a good 4/6 months. Was a while ago so prices im sure have risen, but it was expensive even 7/8 years ago. I got a machine from boots for £300 and its unlimited so i do it most weeks through the winter and stay hairless through summer.

It works incredibly well on me, dark hair, olive skin and after only 1 pass I had an 80% hair reduction.
this was 10+ years ago and even now I only need to shave my arm pits about once a week as hair is thin and light

Same as @MiddleagedBeachbum my hair now is so patchy and fine when it regrows. I used to shave at night and be hairy by morning and now i could not laser for a year (covid times) and i still only had the odd little fluffy patches. Changed my life as a hairy girl!

I also have slightly dark hair, so it seems it might work for me. Based on your experiences, it doesn't completely stop hair growth, but it does slow it down, which is still encouraging. My main problem is that my hair regrows very quickly, and the stubble is very prickly, so I'm hoping that laser treatment would solve this issue.

Yes will massively help!

Had it. 6 sessions, still have to shave regularly although it’s finer so less obvious. Waste of time and money and it bloody hurt.

I had it. I had really dark, stubbly hair. It's all gone bar about 10 hairs. I've gone from almost daily shaving to once a month.

I have pale skin and dark hair. Some years back I bought the Phillips Lumea, and used it on underarms and bikini line. Ever since then, nothing to see! If I were a young woman now (I'm in my 60s), I would save up and pay to get everything done professionally. Would have saved me a fortune in salons over the years.

I had it done 10 years ago and I’ve just had a top up done now. For about 5 years I never had to shave. For another 3-4 years I shaved once a month max. For the last year I shaved once every 2 weeks so decided to top it up with another 6 sessions. I have dark hair and dark skin

Hi op I had 6 on my lip. I still have re growth. It is minimal yes but find it all adds up.. she said today face is hormonal which effects it

Saweetie · 27/11/2023 15:12

It will definetly reduce how stubbley it feels as well as how often you need to remove. Mine feel like little vellus hairs now when it grows back. In lockdown when i didnt shave for a year (😳) a full leg growth was just tufty little patches here and there, before i would have black dots all over my legs even on a fresh shave.
