What shoes to bring to Val Thorens??

I am going there for just two nights but have never been to a ski resort before. Is there any point in bringing any high shoes at all? Is it just a case of boots and shoes, even at night. I'd imagine we will be going to a fairly smart restaurant. I don't know what to pack, I am out of my style depth here! Help, please.

Please, heels or not?

No, honestly don't bother with heels

I have fond memories of taking stiletto boots to Zell am See and picking my way through the slush and ice! Honestly it's not worth it, I felt completely daft.

Plus, Val Thorens is very very high altitude, so likely to be snowy and very icy at night. I would just take some smart boots with a reasonably thickish and sturdy heel, with a lot of grip. Not stilettos!

have a lovely time (am jealous)

Leave the heels at home - i never bother!

Cheers, I'm trying to pack a tiny bag and don't want to waste space.

No you don't need fancy. Not shoes or dinner gear really. Just kinda, presentable really!

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/03/2008 23:04

plus if you have never been to a ski resort before, and bearing you are gouing somewhre above 2000M, you need some super strength sunblock. And rather that wearing big thick jumpers, wear layers that you can peel off during the day, as you're going this time of year it is surprising how warm it gets during the day.

stuffitllama · 12/03/2008 23:05

Oh you are so lucky. Have a wonderful time.

Carmenere · 12/03/2008 23:07

So fitted trews and a fitted blouse with clumpy boots for dinner on night one and similar for night two?

Yes, that sounds more than fine

Carmenere · 12/03/2008 23:08

I would love to go to Val Thorens. An ex boyfriend of mine skiied there a lot, said it was amazing. Also heard that it is full of lovely looking aussie and scandinavian blokes

stuffitllama · 12/03/2008 23:15

It is fab, spent the last two Easters there.

You'll look lovely. Have you got something for your ears, some of the longer chairlifts are in mountain shadow and blardy blardy cold.

Carmenere · 12/03/2008 23:21

I have an fugly hat I have never skied before, I doubt I'll get as far as the baby slopes tbh.

It may be fugly but I swear I would have worn a skunk on my head to stop the knifing across my lobes .

There are some very nice wide green motorways (with nice bars) which I'm sure you'll be persuaded onto on your second day..

soapbox · 12/03/2008 23:29

Everyone seems to wear flattie posh boots with jeans tucked in and a bit of cashmere for the evening.
