Do any beauty products actually do what they say on the tin?

I have tried so many face creams, cleansers, treatments etc and I have just realised that none of them are actually any good. There is no product I have bought that I would buy again.

I´ve just slathered on my free sample of Dermalogica´s vitamin power recovery masque which I was told was fantastic, best ever etc. I´m left wondering what all the fuss is about. My skin does not look plump, supple, or revitalised, indeed it doesn´t look any different whatsoever

Is it just me or can somebody recommend a product that actually does what it says....??

I don´t want to waste any more pennies

Hi bebespain. i use Liz Earle products (available on line) and they are made using natural ingredients. I use their face wash, toner and face cream (all 3 are about £35 +p&p) and my sking feels really moisturised. Even after washing I don't get that horrble dry tight sensation. I love their products. www.lizearle.com/index_2.php?searchreferrer=adwords&searchphrase=liz%20earle
You can even get trial sizes which I'd suggest you go for. They cost about £10 and you get good sample sizes of face wash, toner and cream.

I would say you have to do more than apply a mask to unprepared skin. First have a warm bath apply cleanser in small circular motions. Steam helps it absorb and soften.

Remove with soaked muslin I don`t use cotton wool anymore. Then apply a Gentle Exfoliator like Body shop Aloe or Elemis rose, rinse again with muslin.

Then apply mask like this for sluggish skin

On another day do a facial massage helps toxins again circular motions out to the sides of the face where the Lymph exits.

It helps :

Helps correct any imbalances in the skin

Gives your skin a healthy vibrant glow

Leaves you refreshed and rejuvenated

Revitalises tired and dull looking skin

Reduces facial puffiness and lessens a double chin

Prevents pre-ageing skin

Drains trapped toxins and eases facial tension

Use a serum by Occitane Exlir or cheaper botanics by Boots do one.

Don`t forget the insides either Dr Udo oil does wonders for the skin.

At the end of the day, they are all the same its just the extra perfume you pay for of the designer name.A wrinkle is a wrinkle and slapping cream on the toplayer cant stop what is happening underneath,i get dry skin ,so use just a cheapo moisturiser to keep it soft.

I havent met anyone who has better skin than me,because they pay for for the cream, the worst things are smoking and alcohol, drink plenty of water and you will be fine.

the old saying is you get the face you deserve, and that is so true,im in my 40s and many of my smoking and drinking pals, are now sorry, some have really aged its scarey, with that i will wake up tomnorrow with skin like an elephants bum.ha ha ..

i wonder whether all these things are much of a muchness aswell!
at the moment i am testing different things as i normally use el cheapo and on occasion (like for my birthday or something) i am treated to more upmarket gear.

i am currently on a mission to find my best foundation. i wonder if how i look in one is not going to be radically different to any other though so could be wasting money

cheeryface · 13/03/2008 18:33

any everybody swears by something lol

I am a bit of a product junky, but a few years ago when my skin went very sensitive ( probably because of over use of fancy schmancy creams and potions) the best product I found for cleansing and moisturising was good old Aqueous cream - about £2.50 for a ginormous tub. My skin was the best it's ever been - never had so many compliments. I used it for about a year but then got bored of the no scent utilitarian thing.

I also like Eve Lom cleanser, which is v expensive indeed but lasts ages and genuinely does make your skin glow.

I think that you need to give products a chance. Apparently you need to try a product for at least a couple of weeks before it starts working. Most of the time your skin will start to look worse before cit looks better! I use dermalogica clay cleaners and love it!

Ooooh thanks everybody for all your replies!

Special thanks to brookeslay for all the info

Totally agree with what you say lilmamma - hopw when you woke up this morning you were elephant bum free!!!

I think you´re probably right janjas I may have been a bit harsh on Dermalogica - they are not miracle workers after all

I do drink lots of water and try and keep out of the sun and I suppose genes have a lot to do with it!
