50th Party in London with an edge?

Off this weekend to a 50th party in Peckham…bunch of media people and creatives. Casual vibe apparently with a DJ. Know the hosts well and a few of their friends but just aren’t sure exactly what I should wear! We are way up north and if we’re going out in Manchester/Liverpool there never a problem with over dressing. Just don’t want to be overdressed to this event but not sure what is London casual but assuming with an edge? So I’m 55, size 12, 5.3 and apart from being short waisted so can’t wear jumpsuits can wear most things… like dark colours, hate patterns, look better in a shirt/v neck (don’t have small boobs!) will probably wear a boot as need a bit of a heel. Have Saturday in London to go shopping! Budget up to £300. Any thoughts….

Just wear whatever are are comfortable in OP. I don’t think heels would be a major requirement. Especially for dancing. The media/trendy types I see in this age bracket tend to wear the ubiquitous wide legged trousers with a nice quality silky shirt maybe? Nice bit of trendy jewellery? But honestly just enjoy.

Wide leg trousers are a good idea! Thanks. My boots are a small block heel, super comfy and very helpful when having conversations with taller people! Yep I’m probably overthinking it!

You're right it's hard to be too underdressed in London ;) But actually based on my recent outings, it's increasingly common to dress up as much as you like, just leave off the really 'done' hair/nails/makeup and you'll still fit in most places. e.g. I see lots of big statement dresses or leather/sequins/plunging necklines but paired with no makeup except bright lipstick, and flats. Or big shoes and statement jewellery but with a plain silk button-down shirt or tee and jeans or midi skirt.
There's loads of dark colours and typical velvet/sparkles in the shops right now, so I'm sure you'll find things to like, if looking for novelty.
