I think the huge drag eyelashes are done now

They are on an awful lot of young women and I think they’ve had their day. They need to be scrapped in favour of more natural looking eyelashes. Confined to the dustbin alongside the massive black eyebrows of five years ago and the blue eyeliner of the 80s

Agree or disagree?

They'll probably start the journey out in the new year. Christmas is too good a time for dramatic lashes.

Northbright · 21/11/2023 08:11

Agree. They always look horrendous. My favourite is when you have an early flight so have to get up at 3am and you still see people with no make-up on other than the huge spiders they have stuck on to their eyelids. They've actually taken the time to make themselves look worse.

GinBlossom94 · 21/11/2023 08:18

Oh I hope so! You look at some people and they seem to be barely able to keep their eyes open from them

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 21/11/2023 08:37

I think lash lifts are becoming the new thing.

Other womens beauty treatments don't really effect me though so I couldn't care less either way.
If it makes someone feel good then great.

I really don't like the thick black ones that people wear. They look so obvious and some look as if they can barely open their eyes eg my doctor's receptionist. Having just been away on holiday I had forgotten how awful they looked until I ran into a couple of British lasses while there.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 21/11/2023 08:50

Well they aren't always supposed to look natural, like red lipstick or gold eyeshadow. It's an aesthetic, looking glammed up and "extra".

A lot of them are designed to be worn for a week or so, so that's probably why you see people wearing those and no other makeup sometimes.

It's a look that's been around for ages though, so it probably will start to fade after party season. I don't think it's any worse than overbleached straw hair and planet sized implants, orange tan or any other past stupid fashion.

I was walking around the supermarket last night and there was so much of it - hence the post. They are so huge and I didn’t think one woman looked prettier for it. Are the huge, dense ones the Russian Lashes I see being advertised?

I'm not keen on them and never seen the appeal. When I've been coaxed into trying them by friends they've always made my eyes look tiny!

Dragonbed · 21/11/2023 09:10

My daughter wears them. I started off hating them but now I get a bit of a shock when I see her without them (she’s still beautiful of course) so I can see how people get used to them and feel wrong without them

Auldspinster · 21/11/2023 09:12

My mum calls them daisy the cow lashes.

pastypirate · 21/11/2023 09:14

My dd has a very lovely ta at her school who is very kind and excellent at her job. All the kids call her 'caterpillar lady' because of her lash extensions. Makes no difference whatsoever to her skills of course and it's her face but the eyelashes are a lot!

The trend around here on school girls is tight tiny skirts, long nails and massive lashes that look like roadsweepers. I'm looking forward to the trend ending!!

That’s my reaction when I see my face without make up each morning 🤣

Hope so. Although I also hope the alternative Molly Mae/clean girl/scraped centre parting look goes as well. It's been taken to extremes and the girls round me all look like identical Mrs Pepperpot/peg dollies in beige

CyberCritical · 22/11/2023 12:38

I generally don't notice but there was a woman in the supermarket the other day, very petite with delicate pixie like face and those really solid heavy black eyelashes that were completely out of proportion with her face and plastic looking. I think as with lots of things quality matters and the well applied, good lashes can look great.

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/11/2023 12:38

They aren't for me and I wouldn't want to wear false lashes at all actually, I'm quite minimal with makeup etc but I don't really care what other women choose to adapt their appearance with.

It isn't for me to decide how pretty they do or don't look or to make a judgement on it IMO. There's no obligation to look as pretty as possible whilst remaining as natural as possible any more than there is this notion that every outfit should 'flatter' us or 'do something for us' as is so often the lens used when appraising one. Personally I find all that a bit tiring, but as ever, each to their own.

Give yourself a jolly good talking to!! What on earth is one doing commenting on a thread about something as superficial as fake eyelashes!!

Agreed. It's usually very young women wearing them. At most I might think "ah, bless, the folly of youth" But it's fun for them and harmless.
