Financial difficulties. No nice clothes to wear, old and used. Wearing husbands t-shirts to get by...HELP!

So we are in financial difficulties due to buying a new house recently and me and my DH are in debt of about £30K which we are slowly paying back but as soon as the pay cheque comes through, I save some for groceries and immediate bills and stuff whilst my husband does the mortgage payments but we have very little left to do some decent shopping.

My clothes are really depressing though! I have been wearing the same clothes for the last 2-3 years and it's so uninspiring, boring and every time I wear it, I just feel more depressed. I am grateful I still have clothes to wear though!

I have a couple of black leggings, 2-3 sweaters and 2-3 hoodies and 2-3 skirts and maybe 1-2 jeans and thats pretty much it. Have 2-3 loungewear which my husband is kind of sick of me wearing it (mean it in the nicest possible way) but I just dont know what to do with our current situation.

Getting dressed in the morning feels like a chore now as there is no excitement to getting dressed.

I wish I had so many clothes that I can switch up every time after having a shower so it feels new new but sadly thats not the case at the moment.

Any ideas??

You have to pay delivery on vinted but it's usually around £3 an item or if you buy multiple items from one seller, they'll combine postage so it's a bit cheaper. If you know which brands fit you well and you like, you can search for that brand and your size. There's quite a lot new with tags as well. I find jumpers a bit tricky as if they've been worn they can look a bit bobbly but you just need to look carefully or buy new with tags.

Op like others said vinted is your friend. If you don’t like used stuff then primark is your friend. I’ve bought gorgeous cargo and chino trousers for 12 pounds on primark that still look great after 3 years!

Seriously Do download Vinted and have a look
What you spend on postage costs there is offset by the time and fuel driving to decent charity shops
You can filter by Brand new with tags or very good used if you don't mind that( I just wash with a drop of laundry sanitizer)
Do seek help for your Debts
CAB are fantastic and liase with creditors on your behalf for repayment plans, will go through a budget with you and are completely non judgmental

If you don’t like second hand, H&M always has a sales rack in all sizes with serious reductions. I’ve bought dresses for 10 euros, tshirts for 3.
Last time I was there a sweater DD had bought full price two weeks before was 20% off! Grrrr.

Your black items could be freshened up with some cheap dye. They'll look less old if they don't have a faded grey tinge. I'm in the same boat as you.

I've just bought 6 tops and a pair of shoes off vinted all ranging from £1.50-£6. Definitely worth it imo

Everyone is suggesting Vinted. I am new to that so will give it a go! Thanks everyone :)

I 'found' Vinted a couple of months ago and now don't buy clothes any where else ! You can buy new items with tags on vinted too. I love it ! I've got my outfit for Christmas day for less than £8 and its all decent brands 😀

beatrix1234 · 21/11/2023 14:54

Vinted isn’t that amazing, it’s quite a hit and miss. I’ve bought shoes/clothes my size and half of them were too big or too small because even when sticking to the same favourite brands/ size they will be bigger/smaller depending on the manufacturer. Yes I’ve bought Clark’s shoes and Mango dresses for a pinch but half of them went to the charity local shop because they didn’t fit and that was money wasted. I’m aware some people will re-sell the item when faced with this issue but I really don’t have the time nor the space to storage a bunch of shoes and clothes that don’t fit.

If you're on Facebook, maybe see if you have a local buy nothing group. People often put clothes on ours when they're having a clear out, many things brand new and bundles too. No postage to pay either.
