Non frumpy bob

I'm 41 and have lost weight and am getting my mojo back after after having my last child. My hair is shoulder length, fine with a fringe.

I want to cut it so that it's chin length. I am conscious of a certain kind of Bob that just looks like you've settled into middle age. I'm sorry if that seems offensive but I don't know how beat to describe it. Maybe other people are happy for that look, but me me I'm not. I'm sorry but can't find another way to articulate what I don't want.

My hairdresser doesn't think I should go for the bob as she thinks the bit of length is more youthful looking.

What do you all think? Is a Bob ageing? Does it even matter? How does a Bob go from cool to naff?

I think you either go shorter (maybe with a fringe) and chanel french-girl chic (but have to have a fine facial structure for this). And undone, textured styling

Or go longer, just above shoulders, as you have, but go for a very blunt cut.

I think aging bit is when it is dried smooth, possibly with a curl under towards the chin. My hair texture is naturally fine and smooth, so I'm destined to never have a bob

I think it's basically when it gets too neat and 'sensible'. I'm skirting around a bob at the moment ( as my hair is growing out from a very short cut) but the hairdresser has hacked right into the back and I've actually ended up more in mullet territory but at least it's not middle aged (which I am).

I have my bob cut just below my chin, blunt and straight, same length all the way round. With a thick blunt, slightly too short fringe. When it gets too long it starts to curl under and looks naff and middle aged.
So I think keep it short and sharp.
