Molton Brown Hand Soap

Are they any better than cheap soap, or do they just smell better? I would like a soap that cleans (obviously) and is really moisturising, I have tried both Aesop but didn't love either smell, and not sure I felt they really offered any benefits over mass market, other than lasting longer. Anyone have any other ideas? Or is soap just soap and hand cream is all that counts?

They do seem to be more heavily perfumed and longer lasting than cheaper ones.

If I could afford both id use the Molton brown with matching hand cream but if I couldn't id use a £2 soap and an expensive handcream instead

It's thicker than a lot of cheaper hand washes so you only have to use a tiny bit and it therefore lasts a long time.

For me, it's sufficiently moisturising that I don't need hand cream whereas many other hand washes leave my hands feeling uncomfortably dry.

Apart from the festive frankincense and allspice and the oudh accord, I don't think the scents are anything special, though.

I absolutely hate MB
yes it’s thicker but I didn’t notice a whole lot of difference definitely not enough to justify the price

If you want one that feels really moisturising, I find the l'occitane lavender hand wash great for that. Smells lovely too (if you like lavender).

I like the moisturising L'Occitane but don't feel it cleans super well - good for bathroom but not really for kitchen. Don't love lavender unfortunately, though I know they have a selection so maybe need to pay them a visit. Though it sounds like I may be better off focussing on the hand cream, I'd like one in a pump but those I've tried haven't been very moisturising (Aesop & MB). The Diptyque is very well reviewed though very expensive, maybe I need to get that and some Carex! Thanks all.

Aldi sell a dupe of their hand washes at a fraction of the price.

I recommend the Neom hand wash; it’s a minty fragrance, so ideal for cooking smells and kitchen work. QVC is a good place to buy cheaper Neom, Molton Brown and L’Occitane products.

That's interesting - is it moisturising? And have you tried the hand cream? Thanks for the QVC recommendation, I always manage to forget about them!

I like the orange and bergamot and find it to clean well and last a while. We use the soap and hand cream in the guest bathroom and got the sets for £30 or less each Black Friday in recent years. Just got 2 for £36 each at JL - or £1.32 a week as I told my mother when she looked on horrified!

@callmej I have very dry skin so I wouldn’t say that any hand soap is moisturising as I always have to apply hand cream after washing my hands but I like the fragrance/s of the Neom soaps and I love the hand and body cream more than I like the hand creams.

DGPP · 18/11/2023 20:31

i love MB soaps and shower gels. You only need a small amount and the smell lingers for ages

platinumplus · 18/11/2023 20:55

I really like the Lidl fake White Company hand washes.

Although I love the Aesop pumice one so we probably have different tastes.

Sometimes I buy the large bottles of Savon de Marseille from TK Maxx and decant into a glass soap dispenser from Garden Trading.

platinumplus · 18/11/2023 20:56

If you have dry skin then definitely look at Savon de Marseille. The bar soap even better.

Sunshineandrainbow · 20/11/2023 09:14

I struggle with dry hands and not always practical to apply cream after, I have found the sls in hand soap strips my skin. Sanex soap pump is sls free and a dream to use.

My friend makes the most unbelievably good soap. It has actually cured my dry hands from washing my hands all the time and I can’t recommend it enough! You don’t even need a moisturiser after washing your hands and they look really cool too. muckandmelt.co.uk
