Which length coat?

I've had a Jigsaw city coat in my wish list for ages.

I finally have the money to buy one but I've just realised they do them in two lengths! Which one shall I go for?

I want a "forever" coat so one that won't date as much.

I like the shorter one with jeans but am worried that length will look weird with skirts and dresses.

TIA

Thats the same coat I have my eye on, but with the same dilemma.

I tried both on in store.

Although I loved the longer one it is just too long. It trails on the floor when I bend over and is heavy and difficult to wear sitting down.

Have concluded the shorter one is more practical.

I like longer coats but for me that is too long and I wear long dresses

The shorter one is much nicer.

I think it depends on how long you are outdoors. If you really need to be warm while walking, and wear dresses and boots, then the longer one might be practical for you. If you do transit or driving, and wear trousers more often, then the shorter one. Also, the longer coats are heavier.

You can wear the shorter one with dresses as well, we don't need to have coats longer than the dress. My good coat is knee length; I've had it for years and it hasn't gone out of style.

I think it's going to be the shorter one. I'm in jeans most of the time and tbh the fit was a bit better.

Personally I prefer longer, I’m not overly tall at 5”4 but I think they look infinitely more chic, I love wearing long coats with jeans and trousers and they absolutely do look better with dresses too!

I can't see the coat in question (link takes me to a general page) but when I think about the coats I've kept for years and years, they're nearly all long.

I also can’t see the specific coat… but I’m also going to say long. My longer coats feel a lot more stylish and special than my hip/knee length coats.

Long coats are having a bit of a moment but won’t date.

My favourite coat is a 1980s cashmere/wool mix coat which is ankle length - I got it second hand and it had barely been worn. But it still looks very current and I love wearing it.

If you’re mostly in jeans / slim fitting trousers then it’s the shorter one. However the shorter one won’t look good with midi dresses / skirts.

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2023 08:59

Was going to say it depends on how tall you are and what you would wear with it.
For me it would be the short, but i'd go for a jacket not coat because I might want to wear a mini skirt.

relaxandchillout · 20/11/2023 09:23

I have a long coat and a short coat. I wear the long coat much more than the short. I've had it well over ten years and wear it with jeans and dresses. Much more stylish imo

Barnowlsandbluebells · 20/11/2023 10:57

Definitely the long one.

Notcontent · 20/11/2023 11:29

I think it depends on how tall you are. What I am finding at the moment is that most long things - coats, skirts, dresses - seem to be designed to be very long on tall models. So much too long for the average woman or anyone on the shorter side!
