Dying your hair the colour it already is?

Hope this makes sense. I’m natural dark brown. I used to get highlights and toners which made my hair (look) thicker and shinier.
I’m now happy with my natural, but tonight I had the thought that I could just buy a hair dye the same shade as my natural, purely for the thickness and shine.
Is this something people usually do? I’ve no idea if there’s any strange contraindications to this!

As a student I bleached my hair. When I has enough of that, I asked my hairdresser to dye it my natural colour. I really liked the colour, it had a slightly warmer tone than my normal hair. I always wanted to dye it again but felt a bit silly as it was supposedly the same colour! Have you dyed it yourself before? I wonder if home dye would have the same effect as at a hairdressers? If so, then why not!

Yes i do dye my roots my natural colour but only at hairdresser, add toner as well.

I used to do this at home when I started getting a few greys. Dark brown always looked nice and shiny. My hairdresser used to compliment its condition.

It sounds like a good idea! I have previously dyed my hair (red) years ago. I think I’ll go for it as I can’t see anything to lose.

I've started doing this recently, my hair just looks a bit brighter/shinier. I use a temporary colour every 4 weeks.

Have always done this. If John Frieda ever stop their 6N hair foam dye I'm done for!
