Warmest ski jacket

I'm looking for recommendations for the most toasty ski jacket that doesn't cost £££'s! I use a mobility scooter and get so cold outside. I've bought so many different winter coats but I've yet to find one that actually keeps me warm. I was given some ski gloves which are amazingly toasty, so am thinking that a ski jacket is the way to go!

Degre7 are very warm (for me too warm, even when skiing somewhere very cold!). They are pricey but you can buy second hand

What is your budget? Regatta, dare2be and trespass can be well insulated and less obviously sporty, not overly pricy . Decathlon and Mountain Warehouse more overtly sporty. Brands like Superdry, Roxy, Columbia and The North Face are a bit more expensive. Degree7, Schoffel, Spyder, Poivre Blanc etc do more technical skiwear, more £££ and you probably won't feel the benefit. TK Maxx are good for discounted brands too.

Or try Uniqlo for down jackets and thermal layers

StamppotAndGravy · 17/11/2023 16:01

You don't want a ski jacket! Ski jackets are for doing sport in, normally in reasonably good weather, so you don't want to get too hot and sweaty. If you want something really warm, look for high altitude mountaineering jackets with temperature rating down to -30°. Decathlon do some in their Symond range. They're normally down, so you can't get them wet and need a good waterproof over the top

Superdry have big padded jackets with fur hoods. They are extremely warm. Too warm for me and easily the warmest coat I’ve ever had.

I wouldn't go for a ski jacket either. I have a Cotopaxi puffa coat which is the warmest coat I've ever owned. I think they are a brand designed for mountain climbers. It would be way too warm to wear skiiing but I did wear it in Scotland a couple of weeks ago when it was snowing and down to 2° on the campsite I was staying and it kept me toastie warm. I'd recommend- like wearing a duvet.

EllaPaella · 17/11/2023 18:38

This is the one I have and is so warm

I agree in the ski coat points PP have made.

Lands End do some great super warm coats, worth a look. Not stylish, but warm!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 17/11/2023 18:50

Agree that you don't want a ski jacket.

Didriksons coats are brilliantly warm. Their website shows the ratings on warmth so you can see which ones are the warmest. They are waterproof too where ski jackets are often just water resistant/snow proof.

One you've narrowed out down to a few on the website then Google the specific coats to find them cheaper. I got ds one the other day with over £100 off.

Both mine and ds have a double zip so although longer you could unzip a little from the bottom to accommodate your seated position.

defo not ski jacket! skiing is generally a hit and sweaty sport and so jackets are thin but wind and snow proof
rarely warm

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 17/11/2023 19:43

Have a look at Mountain Warehouse. They have a huge selection of functional jackets at very good prices. They're not particularly stylish or beautiful, but they're immensely practical. I normally order enough in different sizes/colours to get free postage and then take the unsuitable ones back to a store, but I think they have a free postage offer on at the moment anyway.

I wouldn't discount ski jackets altogether, I have several warm ones, you just need to look closely at the specs.

JustRingJoeDuffy · 17/11/2023 22:56

I live in Switzerland and have several ski jackets of varying warmth - some are very toasty. But I dont use them for normal wear as they are all too short! They are designed to be worn with ski trousers, so are generally about bum length. When I'm heading out to work on a cold morning, I want something knee length, or I'm too cold.

Thank you all for your advice/suggestions 🙂 I will go and do some more research.
