Went to book apt for makeup for Xmas night out... but £50 stings when I could be spending that on actual makeup.

I'm mid 40s. Fair skin. Freckles.
Want mid range/ low cost makeup.
Usually wear no 7 or Rimmel foundation.

Would like advice on highlighters/ contouring for nights out.

Plus a lipstick that stays on after a cup of tea! Current Bobbi Brown one is nice but no staying power at all.

Isn't worth booking makeover in a dept store and then buying some of those products?

I used to do a bit of bridal makeup and I can tell you that you don’t need to buy expensive products, it’s the application techniques that make it look good. There are plenty of good YouTube video tutorials, see Nic Chapman.

Mac lipsticks are usually long wearing but you can apply a lip stain instead which has staying power. Start practicing now and you’ll be comfortable applying it in time for the night out. Good luck 🤞

Thank you.

I'd hoped that was the case re application techniques.

I think I do need some extra products though for contouring and highlighting...

Maybelline Superstay Lip Ink has great staying power, but the shades will need testing before to make sure it's the right shade. They are amazing though. I apply, then very lightly blot with tissue to just take off the top layer of stickiness. I find reapplying is fine too, they don't bobble.
I wore ordinary lipstick for a change last week and couldn't believe the lack of staying power (compared to my usual Maybelline) as I'm so used to it lasting.

Also, contouring is tricky and not always needed (IMHO) whereas a bit of highlighter usually achieves good results on its own without contouring. So I'd focus on a highlighter more than contouring.

If you go to somewhere like MAC you can redeem the price of the appointment against products.

If you go to Mac the fee for getting your make up done can be redeemed against products. Therefore you why both.

In fact, I use a mac primer and foundation daily so every so often when I need new ones I book in to get my makeup done by them as it's effectively "free" (well it would be if I stick to only buying why I needed and not half the other products they used when doing my make up - presume that's why they offer it in the first place 😂)
