Its a perfect work dress imo, it will do for a Christmas party but it seems a shame to waste an opportunity to get dressed up.

Would you feel comfortable being probably the most casually dressed guest? Nothing wrong with that, but you may feel even more uncomfortable than you would have done really going all out wit the sequins.

lady3009 · 18/11/2023 14:05

This is what it looks like on me, I realise I have no idea how to make selfies!

Looks lovely on you & I actually think it does look fitting for Christmas, reminds me of a snowy Christmas day 😁

Getoverit1965 · 18/11/2023 17:53

Looks much better on you than it does on the model! I was going with get something else, it looks like a sack but it looks fab on you.

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/11/2023 01:59

And your picture perfectly illustrates why I hate this "skinny young model" idea of showing clothes! The skinny young models are beautiful and good at their job, but ffs model more classic styles on women who are closer in age and size to those who are likely to buy them!! Not a massive fan of M&S but at least they have figured that out! I bought an outfit for my 50th that, if modelled by a 21 year old, I would never have looked twice at. But it was modelled by a woman who was more my age, so I ordered it and loved it. Lets face it, your average 21 year old is more likely to buy disposable fashion than more expensive classic pieces.

You look far better in that dress than the model does! Wear it, love it and then wear it again!

BusterGonad · 19/11/2023 05:34

It isn't very Christmassy but you look great in it. Dress it up a but with jewellery and a bright lipstick (if that's your thing). No one will really care if you are wearing sparkles or glitz, wear what makes you happy.

FiveShelties · 19/11/2023 05:39

Lilibert456 · 15/11/2023 19:01

Why do you feel the need for others opinions. If you like it then go for it. You will always get some who like and some who do not.

It would be a bit quiet on here if no-one asked for others' opinions.

Dibbydoos · 28/11/2023 20:39

If you like it and it is flattering, then wear it.

I'd add some Christmas jewellery, maybe if it needs a jacket, choose something sparkly, and be done with it.

Theblacksheepandme · 28/11/2023 21:10

I was going to say no until you showed us what it was like on you. You look fabulous OP. The shoes aren't the right colour but with the right accessories it will be fab. I also think red lips are nice with a dress like that. Enjoy your night.

Molly499 · 28/11/2023 21:34

It looks great on and perfect for a restaurant. Anyone that turns up in red and green or sequins/sparkle would probably look ridiculous and cheap.

RomeoRivers · 28/11/2023 22:06

If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?

From the picture you look young and slim, so I’m not really sure why you’ve chosen something so covered up and frumpy (that’s intended as a compliment).

I think that you would look fabulous in something a bit more ‘festive/ special/ sparkly’, but, ultimately, if that’s what you feel comfortable and confident in, then that dress is perfectly acceptable.

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 28/11/2023 22:27

I didn’t like it on the website, but it looks great on you! Honestly, go for it and have a fabulous time x

StarDolphins · 28/11/2023 22:32

I really dislike any ‘Christmassy’ type dresses(glittery, sequins, shiny).

Dress looks lovely in you, enjoy your party!

Theblacksheepandme · 29/11/2023 08:52

I see so many people going out in sparkly festive outfits for Christmas and that's fine if you like that. I always tend to notice the understated outfits like your outfit OP. Simply because there is so much sparkle.

Just because someone has a good figure doesn't mean you can't be covered like OP's dress. Covered doesn't equal frumpy.

Cupofteaandpacketofbiscuits · 29/11/2023 08:56

I think that looks great. I'd be tempted to add a black belt too, not a skinny belt, something around 5-7cm wide.

JumpingDizzy · 29/11/2023 09:35

You look fab. You could get away with anything.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 29/11/2023 09:55

urbanbuddha · 19/11/2023 06:08

I like your dress - you could jazz it up with a necklace and accessories to look more festive.
M and S has this in traditional Christmassy green -

I think that's a lovely dress and perfect for any Christmas occasion. Velvet is quite seasonal though. I imagine that the OP will be able to wear the dress she has chosen all year round. Not particularly Christmassy, but a useful dress and suits her.

ThankYoufortheDay · 29/11/2023 10:02

It looks lovely on you.

Do you have any jazzier shoes?

Uncooperativefingers · 29/11/2023 10:07

Looks great. And you really suit it.

I personally wouldn't pair with nude shoes. Black would obviously work, or you could do something like bright pink / gold / orange heels.

You know the type of your Christmas party, so have confidence. In my work, sequins and glitter would be way overdressed, in fact a dress might also be in that category. Most of my colleagues are men and turn up in jeans and a t-shirt

lady3009 · 30/11/2023 08:57

Thank you all! In the end I have decided to wear the dress instead, with black shoes and sparkly jewellery
I'm 38 by the way:)

That one looks amazing.

Theblacksheepandme · 30/11/2023 18:06

I think you could put a bin liner on and look fab OP.

Theblacksheepandme · 30/11/2023 18:08

Do you have any shoes with a bit of colour OP?

lady3009 · 30/11/2023 18:46
